Job Title: Distribution Engineer IIJob Description

A growing engineering organization is seeking a Distribution Engineer II to support its Transmission & Distribution (T&D) electrical design group. This role contributes to the planning, engineering, and design of power delivery, electrical systems, and substation solutions. Engineers in this group are collaborative, solutions-oriented professionals who work proactively within multidisciplinary project teams. This position supports innovative approaches that improve efficiency, reliability, and resilience across power delivery systems.

Responsibilities
  • Support delivery of electrical and power utility projects within Transmission & Distribution environments.
  • Adhere to project budgets and schedules, proactively identifying risks or deviations and communicating issues early.
  • Participate on project teams and contribute design recommendations that may significantly impact project outcomes.
  • Coordinate and integrate design work with other engineering and technical disciplines.
  • Perform quality assurance and quality control (QA/QC) reviews of drawings, calculations, and technical deliverables.
  • Interpret and apply client, internal, and industry standards, as well as applicable local codes.
  • Design systems and manage plan production by technical staff.
  • Assist in preparation of construction documents, including plans, specifications, calculations, and quantity takeoffs.
  • Demonstrate working knowledge of industry standards and regulatory requirements relevant to power utilities.
  • Analyze and resolve construction and operational challenges.
  • Support proposal development for new work, including scope definition and fee estimates.
Essential Skills
  • Proficiency in PLS CADD.
  • Strong understanding of power distribution and engineering principles.
  • Experience in distribution design and QA/QC processes.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Mechanical or Civil Engineering, or equivalent experience.
  • EIT certification.
  • 3 years of engineering and design experience supporting Transmission & Distribution (T&D) or Underground (UG) power utility projects.
  • Experience working in multi-disciplinary engineering teams and producing construction-ready design deliverables.

Work Environment

The work environment varies based on location. If located in San Diego, the position requires four days in the office, non-negotiable. In Portland, OR, a possible hybrid model is available, although the engineering team does not work in the office. This is a highly communicative remote position, requiring the ability to keep on top of internal messages and contribute in remote meetings. This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Portland, OR.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $85000.00 - $95000.00/hr.
