Job Description
This role focuses on operating and overseeing distillation equipment to produce high-quality batches from specified raw materials in a manufacturing environment. The Distillation Technician monitors temperatures, completes batch records in alignment with GMP and SOP requirements, and ensures accurate data entry into internal tracking systems. The position requires strong attention to detail, comfort with calculations, and the ability to support continuous process improvement while working an evening shift.
Responsibilities
- Operate and oversee distillation equipment to process target compounds and batches from specified raw materials.
- Perform fractional and steam distillation, purification, compounding, batch making, mixing, and blending activities as required.
- Monitor and verify temperatures and other process parameters, ensuring compliance with batch specifications.
- Complete batch records accurately and in a timely manner in accordance with GMP and standard operating procedures.
- Perform necessary calculations for product specifications and document all results clearly and precisely.
- Inspect products during and after processing and provide samples for quality control testing.
- Record various process and quality data points as required, maintaining accurate and complete documentation.
- Use computer systems to input and maintain data in internal tracking systems.
- Handle chemicals and expensive ingredients safely and responsibly, following established procedures.
- Adhere to best practices and standard operating procedures while identifying and supporting continuous process improvements.
- Work independently to manage tasks and workflows, ensuring production schedules and quality standards are met.
- Collaborate and communicate effectively with colleagues at various levels within the organization.
Essential Skills
- Experience operating distillation equipment and working with distillation processes.
- Ability to perform fractional distillation, steam distillation, compounding, and batch making activities.
- Strong attention to detail when recording data, completing batch records, and following GMP and SOP requirements.
- Ability to perform calculations related to product specifications and process parameters.
- Comfort and proficiency using a computer and internal tracking systems for data entry.
- Capability to work an evening shift from 7:00 p.m. to 3:00 a.m. and to work different shifts as required.
- Minimum of a high school degree.
- Ability to learn and follow unique, detail-specific processes.
- Comfortable handling chemicals and working in a chemical, production, or manufacturing environment.
- Ability to work independently while following guidance and direction from leadership.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Previous experience in distillation operations is preferred.
- Previous experience working in a GMP-regulated environment is preferred.
- Experience or familiarity with chemistry, chemical handling, laboratory work, or chemical operator duties is beneficial.
- Experience with manufacturing processes, production, blending, and batch making is an advantage.
- Strong documentation skills and familiarity with internal tracking or manufacturing systems.
- Ability to communicate clearly and interact effectively with team members at various levels.
- Comfort working with expensive ingredients and maintaining high standards of care and accountability.
Work Environment
This position is based in a manufacturing-type setting where you typically wear casual attire such as jeans and a T-shirt. The role involves independent work, requiring you to manage calculations for product specifications and maintain complete documentation in internal tracking systems. You will work with chemicals and expensive ingredients, following GMP and SOP guidelines in a structured production environment. The culture reflects a family-owned, work-hard–play-hard atmosphere with straightforward communication, where you are expected to interact comfortably with colleagues at various levels. The standard shift for this role runs from 7:00 p.m. to 3:00 a.m., with the flexibility to work different shifts as needed.
Job Type & LocationThis is a Contract to Hire position based out of Belcamp, MD.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $25.00 - $28.00/hr.
