What are the responsibilities and job description for the Designer position at Actalent?
As a Project Designer, you will be an integral part of the company, working across all facets to efficiently deliver solutions to customers in a timely manner. You will collaborate with sales and engineering teams to transform product designs into Bill of Materials (BOMs) supporting assembly operations. Your role involves communicating with vendors to support the supply chain, addressing production and customer concerns, and developing and implementing new tools such as product configuration, Smart BOMs, CAD, and construction diagrams.
Responsibilities- Coordinate the flow of information to translate a customer order into a structured BOM for assembly.
- Create and update BOMs for built-to-order systems in the ERP system.
- Review orders and follow up with customers, sales, and engineering for accuracy and completion.
- Support manufacturing by addressing BOM accuracy or changes.
- Work with engineering to identify and correct historic BOM inaccuracies and structure.
- Use 3D CAD to develop customer drawings, exploded assembly views, and parts lists for BOMs.
- Support the supply chain by identifying and following up on custom components for jobs.
- Work cross-functionally to develop and evolve process and product continuous improvement ideas.
- Associate's Degree in CAD Technology or Product Design.
- Experience in creating and managing BOMs.
- Proficiency in 3D CAD, designing and creating models.
- ERP system experience.
- Strong and effective communication skills.
- Experience with Inventor, Solidworks, and/or AutoCAD.
- Familiarity with pumps, hydronic systems, and electrical controls.
- Infor ERP system experience.
The work environment includes collaborating with a team of 7 engineers, consisting of 5 mechanical and 2 electrical engineers. The role involves reporting directly to the VP of Engineering and working closely with the Mechanical Engineers. Most of the time, 80%-90%, will be spent at the desk designing and creating orders, while the rest will be spent on the floor fielding questions. The location houses approximately 45 employees, with 20 on the shop floor and 20 in office positions. The company has a long history of building high-quality condensate return pumps, boiler feed systems, and accessories since 1921.

Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $31.25 - $33.66/hr.
