What are the responsibilities and job description for the Design Checker position at Actalent?
We are seeking a highly skilled Design Checker with expertise in SolidWorks 3D Modeling and Mechanical Design for manufacturing (DFM). The role involves preparing assembly, subassembly, parts, weldments, piping systems models, and design & shop drawings. Knowledge of GD&T, ASME Y 14.100 Drawing Standards, and PDM is essential. Experience in creating products carried through manufacturing is highly valued.
Responsibilities- Create and modify detailed drawings using CAD hardware and software from sketches, layouts, or notes provided by engineering.
- Contribute design modifications to facilitate manufacturing operations or improve product quality.
- Check drawing plots against project input for correctness and conformance to standards.
- Work with design engineers regarding model accuracy, design, drafting standards, and ECN/ECR documentation.
- Manage system including file maintenance, backup, and storage.
- Design major segments of complex subsystems and create 3D models of parts and assemblies using SolidWorks 2023.
- Prepare production drawings and apply knowledge of materials, finishes, welding, and other manufacturing processes.
- Participate in design reviews and work closely with engineers and manufacturing personnel to ensure design understanding.
- Serve as liaison with operations during fabrication to resolve design issues and update drawings.
- Perform tolerance analysis on mating parts and apply knowledge of GD&T to designs.
- Direct work and check drawings of lower-level drafters, providing expertise in CAD software problem-solving.
- Availability for daily tasks, including evenings and weekends if necessary to meet goals and deadlines.
- May be requested to work with AutoCAD or similar software tools such as SMAP 3D and DraftSight for 2D drawings.
- Advanced skills in 3D solid modeling/drafting using SolidWorks software.
- Advanced skills in 2D drafting using AutoCAD, SMAP 3D, or DraftSight software.
- Advanced knowledge of conventional engineering drawing practices per ASME Y14 standards.
- Intermediate knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerance (GD&T) per ASME Y14.5.
- Intermediate knowledge of machining operations and shop practices.
- Familiarity and working knowledge of PDM file manager SW.
- Knowledge of PDM is a plus.
- Experience supporting nuclear terrapower IVTM program is advantageous.
- Ability to integrate and package electro/mechanical enclosures.
- Ability to perform Form, Fit, and Function verification.
The position is onsite at a great campus in Huntsville, featuring amenities such as an onsite cafeteria, gym, and hair salon. Core hours are 9 AM to 3 PM, with flexibility for shifts such as 6 AM to 3 PM or 7 AM to 4 PM. Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $40.00 - $60.00/hr.
