Job Title: Demolition Safety Professional

Job Description

This role serves as a Health & Safety Officer supporting large-scale demolition and infrastructure projects, with a primary focus on field safety oversight rather than direct labor or demolition execution. You will oversee subcontracted work such as utility separations and disconnects, industrial demolition, excavation activities, and hazardous materials-related tasks to ensure compliance with site requirements and applicable OSHA regulations. You will collaborate closely with project managers, construction management teams, subcontractors, and safety personnel in a highly procedural environment where projects follow defined phases and approval processes. This position offers exposure to complex industrial demolition, utility infrastructure, excavation, and hazardous materials projects, with the potential for extended project opportunities depending on business needs.

Responsibilities

  • Provide field safety oversight for subcontracted work, including utility separations, utility disconnects, industrial demolition, excavation activities, and hazardous materials-related tasks.
  • Ensure strict compliance with site-specific safety requirements and applicable OSHA regulations across all project activities.
  • Work closely with project managers, construction management teams, subcontractors, and safety personnel to integrate safety requirements into daily operations and project planning.
  • Conduct regular field observations and inspections to identify unsafe conditions, at-risk behaviors, and potential hazards on demolition and infrastructure sites.
  • Review and evaluate Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs) and Job Safety Analyses (JSAs) to ensure they adequately address project risks and reflect current site conditions.
  • Monitor subcontractor safety performance, including adherence to safety plans, procedures, and regulatory requirements, and document findings and trends.
  • Support incident prevention efforts by proactively identifying risks, recommending corrective actions, and reinforcing safe work practices.
  • Audit work practices and site activities to verify compliance with safety policies, procedures, and regulatory standards, and follow up on corrective actions.
  • Provide coaching, guidance, and on-the-spot feedback to project teams and subcontractors to promote a strong safety culture and continuous improvement.
  • Collaborate in a highly procedural environment, ensuring that safety requirements align with defined project phases, approvals, and change management processes.
  • Support hazardous materials-related work, including activities involving asbestos, lead hazards, and other environmental safety concerns, in line with regulatory and site requirements.
  • Participate in contractor management efforts by coordinating with multiple subcontractors and ensuring consistent application of safety expectations across all parties.
  • Assist in the development and refinement of JHAs/JSAs and other safety documentation to address evolving project conditions and lessons learned.
  • Communicate safety expectations, observations, and findings clearly and professionally to all levels of the project team, including field personnel and leadership.
  • Contribute to a positive and supportive work environment by fostering open communication, mutual respect, and shared accountability for safety performance.

Essential Skills

  • Demonstrated construction safety experience specifically supporting demolition, excavation, infrastructure, industrial, or heavy construction projects.
  • Experience supporting industrial demolition projects and industrial demolition safety practices.
  • Experience with utility separation and utility disconnect work on utility infrastructure projects.
  • Experience working in environments involving hazardous materials, including asbestos and lead-related hazards.
  • Ability to conduct field inspections and safety observations in active construction and demolition environments.
  • Strong safety communication skills, with the ability to convey expectations and feedback clearly to diverse project teams and subcontractors.
  • Ability to operate effectively with multiple subcontractors, coordinating safety requirements and ensuring consistent compliance.
  • OSHA 30-hour safety training certification.
  • Current HAZWOPER certification.
  • Knowledge of OSHA regulations and OSHA safety requirements applicable to construction, demolition, excavation, and hazardous materials work.
  • Experience in HSE/EHS management, including health and safety oversight on construction and industrial projects.
  • Proficiency in developing, reviewing, and implementing Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs) and Job Safety Analyses (JSAs).
  • Experience in environmental safety and hazardous waste-related safety practices.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Utility disconnect and utility separation project experience, particularly in complex industrial or infrastructure settings.
  • Industrial demolition experience in large-scale or complex facilities.
  • Asbestos awareness experience and familiarity with asbestos-related hazards and controls.
  • Lead hazard awareness experience and understanding of lead-related safety requirements.
  • Experience working on pharmaceutical manufacturing sites or similar highly regulated environments.
  • OSHA outreach or trainer credentials, enabling you to provide formal safety training and instruction.
  • Experience with contractor safety oversight and contractor management on construction and industrial shutdown projects.
  • Exposure to pharmaceutical construction and industrial shutdown activities.
  • Experience working within a highly procedural environment where projects follow defined phases, approvals, and structured processes.
  • Strong collaboration skills and the ability to build positive working relationships with project managers, construction teams, subcontractors, and safety personnel.

Work Environment

This role is primarily field-based, with approximately 95% of the time spent working outside in all weather conditions. You will support demolition and infrastructure projects on a large campus environment, including industrial demolition, utility infrastructure work, excavation, and hazardous materials-related activities. The work setting is highly procedural, with projects following defined phases and approval processes, and involves close coordination with multiple subcontractors and construction management teams. You will operate in an active construction and demolition environment that emphasizes safety, collaboration, and adherence to regulatory standards. The culture promotes a supportive work environment, reinforced by previous successful consultant placements and opportunities for long-duration project work expected to extend through approximately late 2027, with potential for further project assignments based on business demand.
