Job Description
We are seeking an entry-level Construction Materials Technician to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for testing concrete for slump, density, and moisture in a lab setting. This role involves in-house training, and the individual will be expected to communicate effectively with project managers, engineering technicians, client representatives, and contractors regarding construction site requirements and test results. The technician will transport material samples to the laboratory, prepare and submit data and observations, maintain equipment, and adhere to strict safety standards.
Responsibilities
- Test concrete for slump, density, and moisture in the lab.
- Communicate with project managers, engineering technicians, client representatives, and contractors regarding construction site requirements and test results.
- Transport material samples with associated documentation to the laboratory for further testing and analysis.
- Prepare and submit data and observations in written and digital reports for daily transmittal to the Project Manager.
- Maintain and clean equipment, vehicles, and work areas.
- Assist with scheduling and dispatch of Technicians to project sites as needed.
- Adhere to strict safety standards.
- Provide clear documentation of findings and results.
- Progressively take on increased training and responsibility in work assignments.
Essential Skills
- Strong communication skills.
- Strong computer skills for logging daily field reports and sending emails.
- Experience with concrete testing, materials testing, and concrete inspection.
- Familiarity with ACI standards.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Certifications such as ACI Level are a plus.
- Previous construction materials testing experience is a plus.
- Bachelor's or Associate's degree in civil engineering, geology, geoscience, or a related field.
Work Environment
Typical working hours are Monday to Sunday, with 8-12 hour days. More hours are expected in the summer than in the winter, and there is no guarantee of a 40-hour work week due to the nature of the industry. Hands-on training is provided for entry-level civil, geotechnical, and environmental roles. The company offers paid certifications and extra training, and is employee-owned with profit-sharing opportunities. Work is conducted in various project sites, with adherence to strict safety standards.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $19.00 - $23.00/hr.
