The position offers exposure to a wide range of projects, opportunities to earn industry-recognized certifications, and the chance to build a long-term career in construction materials testing and inspection.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct testing of construction materials such as soils, concrete, asphalt, and reinforcing steel to verify compliance with project specifications and applicable standards.
  • Operate a nuclear gauge to test construction materials in the field in accordance with safety and operational procedures.
  • Use a tablet to document test results, inspection findings, and daily activities accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Carry buckets and other testing equipment as needed to perform on-site sampling and testing tasks.
  • Read and interpret maps and site plans to locate test areas and navigate to project sites when required.
  • Communicate clearly with site personnel, supervisors, and project teams regarding test results, issues, and site conditions.
  • Work independently in the field, traveling to multiple construction sites on a daily basis as assigned.
  • Follow established quality assurance procedures and adhere to all safety guidelines while working on active construction sites.
  • Pursue and maintain relevant certifications in construction materials testing and inspection to enhance technical proficiency and career progression.

  • Interest in obtaining industry-recognized certifications that can support career advancement.
  • Comfort working independently with minimal direct supervision in the field.

Work Environment

The role is based out of an office in Cranberry Township, PA, with daily travel to various construction sites. Typical projects include private new construction and land development for commercial, institutional, and industrial buildings. You will work primarily in the field at active construction sites, performing testing on materials such as concrete, asphalt, soil, and steel. The standard schedule is a 40-hour workweek, generally from 7:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., with some night shifts as needed. As weather conditions warm, there are opportunities for overtime. The work is highly independent, with daily travel to different sites and the need to manage your own schedule and tasks in the field. You may travel to a designated site to pick up nuclear gauge equipment before your shift if you do not have your own assigned unit. The dress code typically includes work boots, jeans, and a button-up shirt, appropriate for an outdoor construction environment.
