Remote Pharmacist – Prior Authorization Review
Active pharmacist license in at least one of the following states:
Oklahoma (OK), Indiana (IN), Kansas (KS), Pennsylvania (PA), Georgia (GA), or New Mexico (NM).
This role focuses on performing final prior authorization review while ensuring full compliance with state and federal drug laws. The pharmacist uses clinical expertise, attention to detail, and strong computer skills to review prior authorization requests, maintain accurate records, and support safe and appropriate medication use in a fully remote environment.
Responsibilities
- Perform final prior authorization review for medications with accuracy and clinical soundness.
- Ensure compliance with state and federal drug laws as regulated by the state board of pharmacy, the Drug Enforcement Administration, and the Food and Drug Administration.
- Monitor nursing unit inspections and support adherence to medication handling standards.
- Maintain accurate and complete records for controlled substances in accordance with regulatory requirements.
- Identify, remove, and document outdated or damaged drugs from pharmacy inventory.
- Supervise and review the work results of support personnel to ensure quality and compliance.
- Maintain current pharmacist registration and licensure in good standing.
- Stay informed about existing and new pharmacy-related legislation and regulatory changes.
- Anticipate the impact of new legislation and advise management on necessary actions and process updates.
- Utilize computer systems and data entry tools to process prior authorization requests efficiently and accurately.
- Collaborate with internal teams and external stakeholders to resolve prior authorization issues and ensure timely decisions.
- Work scheduled shifts, including rotating weekends and holidays, while maintaining productivity and quality standards in a remote setting.
Essential Skills
- Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) or Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy degree.
- Current pharmacist license in good standing with a State Board of Pharmacy.
- Experience as a pharmacist with responsibility for clinical review and regulatory compliance.
- Proficiency in prior authorization review processes for prescription medications.
- Knowledge of Medicare and Medicaid requirements related to medication coverage and prior authorizations.
- Strong computer skills, including the ability to work efficiently within pharmacy and prior authorization systems.
- Accurate and efficient data entry skills with strong attention to detail.
- Thorough understanding of state and federal pharmacy laws and regulations.
- Ability to supervise and review the work of support personnel in a pharmacy-related environment.
Work environment
- This position is 100% remote and requires a dedicated, quiet, and secure workspace at home that supports confidential work and consistent internet connectivity.
- The role follows a Monday through Friday schedule, with core hours from 10:00 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Eastern Time, and includes rotating weekend and holiday coverage as part of the team schedule.
This is a Contract position based out of Philadelphia, PA.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $60.00 - $70.00/hr.
