Job Description
The Chassis Control Tower Engineer plays a key role within the North America Quality organization, focusing on the identification, analysis, and resolution of warranty issues related to chassis components such as wheels, tires, brakes, suspension, and steering. This position works closely with engineering, supplier quality, manufacturing, and service teams to analyze parts and vehicles, drive effective problem-solving, and improve customer satisfaction. The role offers the opportunity to contribute directly to innovations that are reshaping the automotive landscape while operating at the headquarters and technical center level.
Responsibilities
- Lead the identification of warranty-related issues by conducting detailed part analysis and comprehensive vehicle reviews.
- Serve as the primary owner for initial problem-solving of warranty concerns, including defining the suspected responsible functional area and validating clean points.
- Propose clear and data-driven triage recommendations based on combined analytical data and physical inspection insights for resolution by downstream teams.
- Support the governance of each warranty issue throughout its lifecycle, ensuring timely progression from identification through containment, root-cause analysis, and corrective action.
- Collaborate closely with engineering, supplier quality, manufacturing, and service teams to align on issue ownership, corrective actions, and validation plans.
- Document findings, analyses, and recommendations in a structured and traceable manner to support cross-functional decision-making.
- Prepare and deliver presentations that summarize issue status, risk assessments, and proposed resolutions to technical and leadership audiences.
- Apply chassis engineering knowledge to evaluate the impact of design, manufacturing, and usage conditions on warranty performance.
- Use data analysis tools and methods, including spreadsheets and reports, to track trends, prioritize issues, and measure the effectiveness of corrective actions.
- Contribute to continuous improvement of control tower processes, methods, and standards to enhance speed and quality of warranty issue resolution.
- Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering or Electrical Engineering from an accredited university.
- At least 5 years of experience in product engineering.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to prepare clear documentation and deliver effective presentations.
- Well-rounded automotive knowledge, particularly in chassis systems such as wheels, tires, brakes, suspension, and steering.
- Ability to work effectively in a team-oriented environment and collaborate across multiple functions.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, specifically Excel and PowerPoint.
- Engineering experience with tools such as AutoCAD or similar computer-aided design software.
- Demonstrated capability in structured problem-solving and root-cause analysis within an engineering context.
- Master of Science in Mechanical Engineering or Electrical Engineering from an accredited university.
- Shainin RedX Black Belt certification or equivalent advanced problem-solving training.
- Green Belt certification and/or experience with structured methodologies such as Kepner-Tregoe.
- Training or experience in Design for Six Sigma.
- Project management experience, including coordination of cross-functional activities and timelines.
- Working knowledge of geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T) and the ability to interpret detailed engineering drawings.
- At least 2 years of experience in testing, validation, or test method development, including fixture design, instrumentation, and data acquisition.
- Experience in developing and executing test plans for chassis or related automotive systems.
- Familiarity with quality and reliability tools used in automotive product development and warranty analysis.
This role is based at a headquarters and technical center environment that supports advanced automotive engineering and quality activities. The Chassis Control Tower Engineer works in a collaborative, cross-functional setting that brings together engineering, supplier quality, manufacturing, and service teams to solve complex warranty issues. The position involves a mix of office-based analytical work using tools such as Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint, as well as hands-on engagement with parts and vehicles for physical inspection, testing, and validation. This is a Contract position based out of Auburn Hills, MI.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $42.00 - $59.19/hr.
