This role provides comprehensive clinical and administrative support in a clinical setting. The Medical Assistant greets and rooms patients, supports providers with efficient patient flow, maintains accurate electronic health records, and ensures exam rooms and triage areas remain fully stocked. The position also manages patient scheduling, chart preparation, and other front- and back-office tasks to deliver a smooth, respectful, and patient-centered experience.

Responsibilities

• Greet patients in a courteous and professional manner and escort them to examination rooms.
• Perform patient intake, including gathering and documenting relevant medical information in the electronic health record (EHR).
• Document all patient encounters accurately and completely in the electronic health record system.
• Prepare examination rooms for patient visits, ensuring rooms and triage areas are fully stocked with necessary medical supplies.
• Monitor inventory levels, perform regular supply counts, and reorder medical supplies as needed to avoid shortages.
• Schedule patient appointments with providers, including physicians and residents, using the practice’s scheduling systems.
• Call patients to remind and confirm upcoming appointments and reschedule patients as needed, including those on bump lists.
• Schedule and coordinate residents’ clinic appointments where appropriate.
• Prepare charge tickets and ensure that all necessary documentation is ready for billing and follow-up.
• Collaborate with providers and other medical assistants to manage patient flow efficiently, supporting 3–5 providers and working alongside another medical assistant.
• Assist with chart preparation and review to ensure accuracy and completeness before patient visits.
• Support a patient volume of approximately 16 patients in the morning and 15 patients in the afternoon while maintaining high-quality care and service.
• Maintain a professional, friendly, and outgoing demeanor with patients, families, and colleagues.
• Follow all clinic protocols, safety procedures, and privacy regulations in handling patient information.
• Perform other duties as assigned to support the smooth operation of the clinic.

Essential Skills

• Certified or Registered Medical Assistant credential.
• Ideally 1 years of experience as a medical assistant.
• Proficiency with electronic medical records (EMR), specifically Allscripts.
• Strong computer skills and comfort working with clinical software and scheduling systems.
• Ability to prepare and maintain patient charts, including verifying referrals and authorizations.
• Strong organizational skills to manage scheduling, chart preparation, and supply inventory.
• Excellent interpersonal skills with an outgoing, friendly, and professional communication style.
• Ability to work collaboratively with multiple providers and another medical assistant in a fast-paced environment.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Demonstrated ability to handle a high patient volume while maintaining attention to detail.
• Strong time management skills to balance clinical and administrative responsibilities.
• Ability to adapt to changing priorities and perform other assigned duties as needed.

Work Environment

This is a full-time, Monday through Friday position with standard hours of 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. The role is based in a clinical setting, supporting 3–5 providers and working closely with other medical assistants. Patient flow typically includes approximately 15 patients in the morning and 15 in the afternoon, creating a steady, fast-paced setting. Occasional travel, less than once a week, may be required between locations.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Virginia Beach, VA.

The pay range for this position is $18.00 - $22.00/hr.

This is a fully onsite position in Virginia Beach,VA.
