Job Description
We are seeking a dedicated Medical Assistant to join our dynamic healthcare team. This position involves welcoming incoming patients, documenting vital signs, and preparing them for their visits. The role requires maintaining exam rooms, sterilizing instruments, and ensuring medical records are complete and accurate.
Responsibilities
- Obtain vital signs, chief complaints, reconcile medication lists and allergies, and assess smoking status of patients.
- Prepare exam rooms for patient visits, restock clinical areas, and sterilize instruments.
- Document interventions in the electronic medical record and review charts for completeness.
- Scan upcoming appointments for additional medical record information.
- Obtain medical records from other physician offices, hospitals, labs, emergency rooms, and radiology prior to patient visits.
- Complete tasks assigned to the team, including responding to patient messages, prescription refills, lab results, referrals, and other responsibilities.
- Administer and collect patient satisfaction surveys and contact patients to assess medical status.
- Adhere to protocols related to infection control, environmental safety, and patient confidentiality.
- Complete annual recertifications for OSHA, Compliance, Respiratory FIT, and IT policy.
- Maintain current CPR and MA certifications.
- Fill in for other clinical staff during vacations and illness and perform other duties as assigned.
Essential Skills
- Certified or Registered Medical Assistant
- Triage experience and taking vitals
- BLS certification
- Experience with electronic medical records (EMR)
- Customer service skills
- Experience in family medicine
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- 1 year of medical assistant experience preferred
- Strong customer service skills
- Experience using Allscripts
Work Environment
This position operates within a learning facility that offers opportunities for permanent placement and professional growth. The work schedule is Monday to Friday, 8 am to 5 pm, with a 30-minute lunch break. Employees have the chance to sharpen their healthcare skills in a supportive environment and gain exposure to a variety of illnesses and treatments in a family medicine department.
Job Type & LocationThis is a Contract to Hire position based out of Norfolk, VA.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $20.00 - $25.00/hr.
