Job Description
We are seeking a detail-oriented Building Inspector to perform on-site code compliance assessments in healthcare facilities. This role involves traveling to hospitals to evaluate existing buildings for compliance with life safety and fire protection codes, documenting deficiencies, and producing accurate, well-organized deliverables that support compliance and corrective action.
Responsibilities
- Travel to hospital and healthcare facilities to conduct on-site life safety and fire protection code compliance reviews.
- Review architectural drawings, building design documents, and life safety plans to understand existing building features and code-required elements.
- Inspect building conditions in the field and identify features that do not comply with applicable life safety and fire protection codes.
- Photograph observed code deficiencies and clearly document each violation with written descriptions tied to the supporting images.
- Compile findings into organized documentation that communicates code issues clearly and professionally.
- Color-code and label life safety and fire protection drawings to accurately reflect required code elements and observed conditions.
Essential Skills
- Understanding of construction design, planning, and fire protection design.
- Proficiency in life safety and building inspection.
- Ability to understand and work with construction drawings.
- Strong communication skills for direct interaction with contractors and clients.
- Physical ability to climb ladders and enter tight or confined spaces.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- A degree in Construction such as Construction Management, Construction Engineering, or Construction Engineering Technology.
- Interest in fire protection and life safety systems.
- Openness to travel, typically one week out and one week in the office, with potential for up to two weeks of travel depending on project size and location.
Work Environment
This role involves both fieldwork and office work, with structured travel typically alternating between one week out and one week in the office. Occasionally, travel may extend to two weeks for larger or more distant projects. All travel costs are reimbursed. The work is primarily located within Indiana and Ohio, with a relaxed office setting on the west side of Indianapolis. The team environment focuses on accuracy and fast-paced production, often working in pairs to ensure thoroughness. Mileage is reimbursed at the government rate, and the candidate's vehicle should be capable of holding a 6-foot-long ladder.
Job Type & LocationThis is a Contract to Hire position based out of Indianapolis, IN.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $31.25 - $33.65/hr.
