What are the responsibilities and job description for the Brand Reviewer position at Actalent?
Job Description
The Brand Reviewer supports a nationwide restaurant refresh program by reviewing and updating front-of-house designs for existing buildings to align with established brand standards. This role focuses on point-of-sale and café areas, using Bluebeam and PDF-based tools to redline, comment, and refine architectural drawings produced by external design partners. The position suits someone who enjoys space planning, branding and signage, and working on the client/owner side of projects, and who can adapt quickly to changing direction while working both independently and as part of a collaborative team.
Responsibilities
- Assist with brand review activities, with a primary focus on front-of-house areas such as point-of-sale counters, menu boards, café areas, and equipment zones.
- Review and update existing restaurant interiors to achieve a modern look that aligns with approved corporate color schemes and prototype design standards.
- Support a nationwide restaurant refresh program that focuses on remodeling and modernizing North American locations.
- Analyze customer and employee traffic flow to increase space utilization efficiency and improve overall design of order areas and kitchens.
- Participate in the placement and rearrangement of equipment, including kitchen, plumbing, utility equipment, and order stations throughout the restaurant.
- Create and update interior construction documents in AutoCAD, primarily redlining and revising floor plans, elevations, sections, and details.
- Use Bluebeam and PDF review tools to view, mark up, print, and track changes on 2D and 3D technical drawings from external architectural and engineering vendors.
- Review architectural drawings such as roof plans and building elevations to ensure signage, branding, and building elements comply with corporate brand standards.
- Redline plans and elevations to ensure proper branding and signage, including correct dimensions and locations, following established prototype guidelines while applying appropriate flexibility.
- Coordinate with outside architects, A/E vendors, and internal project managers to clarify design intent, resolve issues, and implement brand standards.
- Review shop drawings and communicate with vendors and suppliers regarding design, equipment placement, and signage requirements.
- Adhere to ADA guidelines in restaurant design, ensuring that layouts and details meet accessibility requirements.
- Contribute to architectural detailing and space planning for front-of-house areas, including counters and menu board zones.
- Plan and document the placement of new counters and boards behind counters in café and order areas.
- Support facility design and layout of kitchens and order areas, ensuring efficient operations and alignment with brand standards.
- Assist project managers by taking on technical and documentation tasks, helping to reduce their workload while they manage client-facing responsibilities.
- Work independently on assigned projects, proactively seeking clarification or additional work when needed.
- Adapt to shifting priorities and design changes, including rework driven by evolving brand direction.
- Participate in a structured and documented onboarding program to learn tools, standards, and workflows quickly.
- Bachelor’s degree in Architecture or Interior Architecture, or equivalent relevant education.
- Ideally 2 years of experience in architecture, interior architecture, or a closely related field.
- Experience producing construction documents, including floor plans, elevations, sections, and details in AutoCAD.
- Hands-on experience using Bluebeam for reviewing, redlining, and commenting on PDF drawings.
- Background in facilities design, facilities planning, or space planning for commercial environments.
- Experience marking up and reviewing architectural or technical drawings in a digital environment.
- Understanding of ADA guidelines as they apply to restaurant or commercial design.
- Ability to work independently and manage tasks with minimal supervision.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to be clear, direct, and professional.
- Self-motivated and proactive approach, including willingness to ask for help and request additional work when appropriate.
- Ability to adapt quickly and resourcefully to shifting priorities and frequent design changes.
- Collaborative mindset and ability to function effectively as a team player.
- Positive attitude and willingness to learn new concepts and tools.
- Comfort engaging assertively and professionally with colleagues, vendors, and project stakeholders.
- Interest in working on the client/owner side rather than within a traditional architecture firm.
- Experience with commercial, retail, or restaurant design is a strong plus.
- Kitchen design experience is a plus.
- Experience with facility planning or space planning in restaurant or hospitality environments is highly beneficial.
- Familiarity with Autodesk tools such as AutoDesk Design Review or similar CAD-adjacent review platforms.
- Interest in branding and signage of buildings, including application of corporate brand standards to physical environments.
- Experience reviewing shop drawings and working with vendors and suppliers.
- Comfort working with prototype-based design standards while applying project-specific adjustments.
- Ability to avoid a purely residential or interior decorating focus and instead concentrate on commercial and restaurant environments.
This role supports a major global quick-service restaurant brand on a large-scale, nationwide remodeling and modernization initiative, involving thousands of refresh projects across existing restaurant locations. The work focuses on front-of-house design within existing buildings and involves close collaboration with internal project managers and external architectural and engineering firms. The primary software tools include Bluebeam for PDF review and markup, as well as AutoCAD and AutoDesk Design Review or similar tools for viewing and redlining plans and elevations. The position follows a hybrid schedule, with three days in the office and two days remote each week; most team members typically work in the office on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday. New hires usually begin with more in-office days (for example, Monday through Thursday) during the initial training period before transitioning to the standard 3/2 hybrid schedule. The environment offers a structured and documented onboarding program to support success, along with a professional office setting that includes free water, coffee, and soda. There are optional social opportunities such as Thursday happy hours on an upper floor (cash bar). On-site gym access is available for a modest monthly fee with no long-term commitment. The organization provides paid time off, matched holidays with the headquarters schedule, and half-day Fridays, contributing to a balanced work-life environment. The culture values strong communication, initiative, adaptability to frequent change, and a collaborative, positive attitude in a fast-paced, design-focused setting.
