Biologist
Job Summary
We are seeking a motivated Biologist to support plant research and production activities in greenhouse and controlled-environment settings. This role focuses on studying plant growth, development, and responses to varying environmental and physical conditions. The successful candidate will contribute to daily greenhouse operations while applying biological principles to support research objectives involving row crops.
The ideal candidate will have a strong attention to detail, a passion for plant science, and the ability to work effectively in a dynamic greenhouse environment. This position works under general supervision and requires sound judgment, adaptability, and a willingness to perform a variety of hands-on tasks.
Key Responsibilities
- Support greenhouse and growth chamber operations involving row crops, including:
- Canola
- Corn
- Cotton
- Soybeans
- Sow seeds and establish experimental plantings.
- Perform routine plant care, including watering, monitoring growth, and maintaining plant health.
- Transplant seedlings and plants as required.
- Harvest plants and collect research materials.
- Process and handle seed samples.
- Discard plant materials following established protocols.
- Clean and maintain greenhouse, growth chamber, and work areas.
- Record observations and ensure accurate data collection when required.
- Follow safety, quality, and operational procedures.
- Assist with additional greenhouse and research-related activities as assigned.
Qualifications
Required
- Associate's or Bachelor's degree in:
- Agronomy
- Biology
- Horticulture
- Plant Science
- Other Life Science disciplines
- Strong attention to detail and ability to follow established procedures.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and adapt to changing priorities.
Preferred
- Experience working with plants in controlled-environment settings.
- Commercial greenhouse experience.
- Experience with greenhouse operations, plant propagation, or agricultural research.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand for extended periods throughout the workday.
- Ability to perform repetitive tasks involving planting, transplanting, harvesting, and cleaning.
- Comfortable working in greenhouse environments where temperatures may be elevated during warmer months.
- Ability to lift, carry, and move materials associated with greenhouse operations.
Additional Information
- Work activities will vary from day to day based on research and operational needs.
- Rotational weekend work may be required.
- A certain degree of creativity, initiative, and flexibility is expected in carrying out assigned responsibilities.
This is a Contract position based out of Chesterfield, MO.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $19.00 - $21.00/hr.
