Job Description
The Bilingual (Spanish/English) Patient Support Specialist serves as the first point of contact for patients in a community health clinic setting, providing exceptional customer service and supporting the smooth daily operations of a Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC). This clinic delivers primary healthcare, dental, and mental health services to individuals and families in public housing communities and surrounding neighborhoods. In this role, you support patients in both English and Spanish, help them navigate services, and ensure that all administrative processes are accurate, timely, and compliant with healthcare regulations.
Responsibilities
- Greet and assist patients in a professional, courteous, and friendly manner in both Spanish and English.
- Serve as the first point of contact for patients, visitors, and callers, ensuring a positive and welcoming experience.
- Manage incoming phone calls, respond to inquiries, and route calls to appropriate staff or departments.
- Schedule patient appointments and maintain an accurate and organized appointment calendar.
- Facilitate an efficient patient check-in process, including verifying personal and insurance information and updating records in the electronic medical record (EMR) system.
- Coordinate patient check-out by confirming follow-up appointments, providing necessary instructions, and ensuring all documentation is complete.
- Collect and verify patient information, insurance details, and other confidential documentation in accordance with HIPAA regulations.
- Perform accurate data entry into EMR systems, including EPIC, and other administrative tools.
- Provide clear and accurate information to patients about clinic services, policies, procedures, and available resources.
- Collaborate closely with medical and dental staff to coordinate patient care, address questions, and resolve issues related to scheduling and documentation.
- Support billing-related processes by applying basic knowledge of provider billing practices and medical terminology.
- Deliver high-quality customer service in person and over the phone, addressing patient concerns and escalating issues when appropriate.
- Provide general administrative support to the clinic, including filing, document preparation, and other clerical tasks as needed.
- Maintain confidentiality and protect patient information in compliance with HIPAA and organizational policies.
Essential Skills
- Bilingual fluency in Spanish and English, with the ability to communicate clearly and professionally with patients and staff.
- At least 2 years of prior administrative, call center, or customer service experience.
- Strong customer service skills with a demonstrated commitment to patient care and satisfaction.
- Experience with electronic medical records (EMR), preferably EPIC.
- Exposure to or experience with medical terminology and provider billing practices.
- Demonstrated understanding of HIPAA regulations and the importance of maintaining patient confidentiality.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and basic computer skills.
- Strong data entry skills with a high level of accuracy and attention to detail.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks, prioritize workload, and maintain organization in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to work effectively with diverse patients and healthcare professionals in a community health setting.

Work Environment
This is an onsite position based within community health clinic locations. The standard schedule is Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., and Tuesday and Thursday from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., with a need for flexibility to work shifts within this time window. There are no weekend shifts. The role may require floating between multiple clinic sites in Greenwich and Stamford until all positions are filled. You work in a clinical, patient-facing environment that uses electronic medical record systems such as EPIC and standard office technologies, including computers and Microsoft Office applications. Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $21.60 - $23.00/hr.
