Job Description

An established engineering firm with multiple offices across Kansas is seeking to train an entry-level Geologist to assist in collecting and analyzing samples of soil, rock, and other earth materials. This role aims to determine variations in different landscapes and evidence of pollution or climate change. The position involves 75% lab work and 25% field and office work. Responsibilities include gathering samples from test sites, logging them accurately, confirming drilling locations, coordinating with utility services, analyzing environmental testing data, running tests in a geotechnical lab, and creating reports. The work primarily takes place locally in the Kansas City metro area, with projects ranging from small coffee shops to large commercial parking lots, logistic centers, sports fields, school additions, and highway expansions. Overtime work is compensated, and attention to detail is of the highest priority.

Responsibilities

• Gather samples from test sites and log them accurately.
• Confirm drilling locations and coordinate with utility services.
• Analyze data from environmental testing and run tests in a geotechnical lab.
• Create reports based on findings.
• Work with drill crew to log exploratory borings and evaluate samples in the field around Kansas City.
• Submit utility locates and aid in the preparation of drilling and laboratory tests for engineering analysis.

• Interest in becoming a Geotechnical Engineer or Geologist
• Comfortable working outside and traveling to different job sites

Work Environment

The role requires spending 75% of time in a geotechnical lab and 25% in the field. Fieldwork is primarily local to the Kansas City metro area, with occasional regional travel. The position involves collaboration with various projects, including construction sites, and requires attention to detail.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Shawnee Mission, KS.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $23.00 - $27.00/hr.
