Job Title: Accessioner – 3rd Shift (Contract-to-Hire)

Job Description

The Accessioner plays a key role in supporting overnight operations in a high-volume diagnostics laboratory by receiving, logging, and preparing clinical specimens for testing. This full-time, contract-to-hire position on the 3rd shift offers an entry point into laboratory and healthcare operations, with comprehensive training provided and strong potential for long-term growth based on performance and business needs.

Responsibilities

• Receive and accurately log incoming clinical specimens into the laboratory systems.
• Accession specimens by verifying patient and sample information for accuracy and completeness.
• Prepare specimens for testing in accordance with established standard operating procedures.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and compliant work area that meets laboratory quality and safety standards.
• Work efficiently in a fast-paced, high-volume environment while meeting nightly production goals.
• Collaborate with team members on the overnight shift to ensure timely and accurate specimen processing.
• Perform repetitive, production-style tasks with consistent focus and attention to detail.
• Use basic computer systems for data entry, tracking samples, and navigating internal laboratory applications.
• Perform hands-on bench work as needed to support laboratory workflows.
• Demonstrate reliable attendance and punctuality to ensure continuous coverage for the night shift.

Essential Skills

• High school diploma or GED.
• Ability to consistently work 3rd shift hours (10:00 PM – 6:30 AM, Thursday through Monday, including weekends).
• Strong attention to detail and ability to follow written and verbal standard operating procedures.
• Comfort working in a fast-paced, high-volume, production-style laboratory environment.
• Comfortable standing for long periods and performing repetitive tasks.
• Basic computer and data entry skills, including tracking samples and navigating internal systems.
• Ability to perform hands-on bench work in a laboratory setting.
• Dependability, reliable attendance, and punctuality, particularly for overnight coverage.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• AA or AS degree in a science-related field such as Life Sciences, Biology, Chemistry, Medical Laboratory Technology, or a related scientific discipline is strongly preferred.
• Prior exposure to regulated or laboratory environments is a plus.
• Experience with specimen handling or accessioning is beneficial.
• BG in data entry or experience in healthcare, diagnostics, or clinical operations is advantageous.
• Previous experience working overnight or weekend shifts is helpful.
• Familiarity with CLIA-regulated or other compliance-driven environments is a nice-to-have but not required.
• Interest in building a career in laboratory operations, healthcare, or diagnostics.
• Ability to adapt to structured processes and maintain accuracy over extended periods.

Work Environment

This role is fully onsite in a diagnostics laboratory in Calabasas Hills, CA, working the 3rd shift from 10:00 PM to 6:30 AM, Thursday through Monday, with weekends required. The environment is fast-paced and high-volume, with production-style workflows focused on accurate and timely specimen processing. Overnight team members typically work in a quieter setting with fewer daytime distractions, fostering a tight-knit, process-focused culture. You will use basic computer systems and laboratory equipment to log, track, and prepare specimens while standing for extended periods and performing repetitive tasks. The schedule is consistent and predictable, with no rotating shifts, and includes an overnight shift differential. This setting is well-suited for dependable candidates, including students and career changers, who are seeking stability, growth, and meaningful work that directly supports patient testing and medical decisions.

This is a Contract position based out of Agoura Hills, CA.

The pay range for this position is $21.85 - $21.85/hr.
