What are the responsibilities and job description for the Maintenance Tech (Alaska Lodge – Seasonal) position at ACT Consulting?
About the Role
We are looking for a highly capable, self-sufficient Maintenance Technician to manage all facility operations at a remote boutique lodge in Alaska. This is a one-person maintenance role, ideal for someone with a strong hands-on background who can confidently troubleshoot and resolve issues independently.
This is not an entry-level position — you will be solely responsible for keeping critical systems running in a remote environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee and maintain all lodge systems: heating (boilers), plumbing, electrical, water, and power
- Perform routine inspections and preventative maintenance across all buildings and equipment
- Diagnose and repair mechanical, structural, and system issues independently
- Ensure boiler systems are operating safely and efficiently at all times
- Handle carpentry, minor construction, and general repairs as needed
- Prepare facilities for seasonal changes (including winterization)
- Respond quickly to emergencies and unexpected breakdowns
- Maintain a safe and functional environment for guests and staff
Required Qualifications (Must-Have)
- Proven experience working with boiler systems (required — non-negotiable)
- Background in construction, mechanical trades, or facility maintenance
- Strong working knowledge of plumbing, electrical, and general building systems
- Ability to work completely independently and make decisions on-site
- Experience working in remote or off-grid environments is highly preferred
- Physically capable of outdoor work in challenging weather conditions
- Strong troubleshooting mindset and ability to improvise solutions
What Makes You a Great Fit
- You are a “fix anything” type of person
- You don’t wait for instructions — you take ownership and report back on work regularly.
- You’re comfortable being the only maintenance person on-site
- You understand the importance of preventative maintenance in remote operations
What We Offer
- Competitive pay based on experience
- Transportation to/from Alaska and the lodge at start and end of contract
- On-site housing meals included
- A unique opportunity to live and work in a remote, pristine wilderness setting
- Seasonal contract with a 60-day trial period to ensure mutual fit
