About the Role
ACRONYM is seeking a highly creative and design-driven Environmental Design Intern to join our Experience Design team. Reporting to the Senior Designer, 3D/Environmental, this role supports the development of immersive environments, spatial narratives, and experiential brand moments that bring ideas to life in the physical world.
This opportunity is ideal for emerging designers with a passion for architecture, interiors, exhibitions, and experiential design who are eager to explore the intersection of storytelling, space, culture, and human experience.
As an Environmental Design Intern, you will contribute to the creation of compelling spatial experiences through concept development, 3D visualization, and environmental storytelling. Working alongside designers, strategists, producers, and fabrication partners, you'll help translate creative ideas into thoughtful, buildable experiences while gaining exposure to the full design process—from early ideation through presentation and production planning.
Key Responsibilities
- Support environmental and experiential design initiatives through research, concept development, and design exploration.
- Create 3D models, renderings, diagrams, and presentation materials that clearly communicate design intent.
- Assist in the development of plans, elevations, and spatial documentation.
- Contribute to material research, environmental storytelling, and experiential design strategies.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to ensure concepts are both creatively compelling and technically feasible.
- Participate in design reviews and creative discussions, contributing ideas and thoughtful solutions.
Ideal Background
Currently pursuing or recently completed a degree in:
- Architecture
- Interior Design
- Exhibition Design
- Environmental Design
- Spatial Design or a related discipline
Required Skills
- Strong proficiency in Rhino 3D and SketchUp
- Experience with rendering platforms, ideally Enscape
- Strong proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite, particularly Photoshop and Illustrator
- Ability to read, interpret, and create basic plans, elevations, and 3D models
- Proficiency in Google Slides, Figma, and FigJam
- Strong visual communication, organizational, and presentation skills
Preferred Qualifications
- Understanding of fabrication processes, drafting standards, and real-world production constraints
- Portfolio examples demonstrating spatial thinking, diagrammatic communication, or technical problem-solving
- Interest in experiential marketing, branded environments, exhibitions, and live experiences
- Strong spatial thinker with a refined design sensibility and attention to detail
- Curious, collaborative, and eager to learn
- Thoughtful communicator and positive team contributor
- Able to balance creative ambition with practical execution
- Passionate about crafting meaningful experiences through design, space, and storytelling
- Familiarity with AI-powered creative tools and workflows is a plus
Reporting Structure
This position reports to the Senior Designer, 3D/Environmental and collaborates closely with designers, strategists, producers, and fabrication partners across the creative organization.

- Location: Office in Brooklyn, NY (Industry City)
- Duration: 9-12 weeks (June 22nd to August 31st)
- Onsite Requirements: Work is hybrid
- Monday through Friday
- 10:00 am to 6:00 pm (32 to 40 hours weekly)
- In office Days - Thursday weekly
