Time Type: Full time Department: CC035801 NCOR Administration Summary: M-Fri (40 hours) We are seeking a highly motivated and productive Staff Scientist to support dissemination of research led by Dr. Alicia Allen, Director of the National Center for Opioid & Addiction Research (NCOAR) at the Arkansas Children’s Research Institute. This role aligns with the Pamela D. Stephens Endowed Chair in Maternal and Fetal Health Research, advancing innovative, interdisciplinary work to improve maternal and infant outcomes by identifying causes of birth defects and adverse pregnancy outcomes. The position will focus on transforming data on maternal substance use disorder and pregnancy outcomes into high-impact scientific products, including abstracts, manuscripts, posters, and presentations. The Staff Scientist will partner with multidisciplinary investigators to synthesize findings, lead and contribute to scientific writing, and ensure timely, high-impact dissemination to academic, clinical, and community audiences. In doing so, this role will help elevate the visibility and impact of endowed chair–supported work and accelerate the translation of evidence into practice, policy, and improved maternal and child health outcomes. This position is ideal for a detail-oriented and collaborative scientist that thrives in both a team setting and while working independently. This individual should also have strong writing and analytic skills, and a passion for translating rigorous research into meaningful, real-world impact. Additional Information: A Staff Scientist supports the research of a faculty-rank investigator. A Staff Scientist, under general direction and with considerable latitude for exercise of independent judgment, provides direct research and research training support at the professional level by executing small, non-complex research projects or major aspects of larger research projects. This individual may provide extensive guidance to technicians, laboratory aides, graduate students, undergraduate students, postdoctoral appointees, and professional staff. Makes innovative contributions to research in his/her academic discipline. Possesses the subject matter expertise and the creative energy necessary to function at a high level of competence. The Staff Scientist works independently with oversight provided by the Investigator(s) and has sophisticated skills and knowledge essential to the laboratory's work. This individual is capable of independently designing experiments and assisting one or more faculty members in results interpretation, publication, and faculty member pursuit of grant or other funding. Works independently as part of a research project/program. 2. Under the direction of the Investigator, writes detailed protocols for the conduct of research and contributes to the design, interpretation and final writing of research publications. 3. Analyzes and evaluates experimental data and interprets results within the scope of work and in relation to the general research program. Prepares written reports on phases of laboratory work involved in research projects. 4. Keeps abreast of trends in field of interest by reading current research literature, abstracting scientific articles of value in the prosecution of research problems, and attending and presenting at scientific meetings, seminars and research conferences. 5. Gathers research materials, supplies, equipment and apparatus. Coordinates service support: repair of equipment, requisitioning of supplies and research materials. Selects procedures for data collection and handling; develops or utilizes computer programs for conversions and statistical analysis of data. 6. Participates in the training of research support staff, fellows, and students. Conducts initial training as well as continuous skill development of staff/trainees in laboratory techniques and instrumentation procedures, as needed. Counsels staff/trainees on minor technical problems; may advise and assist staff/trainees with special research projects. Manages research expenditures. 7. Assists in proposal development and in facilitating new directions for the lab. Works with PI to develop plans for personnel and resources. Performs procedures to ensure experimental validity and keeps appropriate records. 8. Other duties as assigned.
