Transmission Analysis Engineer

Acre
Colorado, CO Full Time
POSTED ON 8/29/2026
AVAILABLE BEFORE 9/27/2026

Can be based in Denver or Houston.

Acre is partnered with a leading global independent power producer, supporting its growth and transformation as it accelerates the transition to a lower-carbon energy portfolio. Operating across multiple international markets, the company is expanding its renewable energy footprint while delivering reliable power and energy management solutions.

As a Senior Transmission Analysis Engineer, you will join our US Engineering team! In this role, you will report to the Head of US Engineering and Interconnection and will have the opportunity to be part of a talented team to develop, acquire, and deliver a multi-GW renewable energy portfolio that will help shape the future of clean energy in the United States.

You'll stand out if you have hands-on experience with PowerGEM PROBE or another nodal production cost modeling platform, experience with one or more organized U.S. electricity markets, such as ERCOT, CAISO, PJM, MISO, and SPP, experience performing basis, congestion, curtailment, and BESS dispatch analyses for utility-scale renewable energy projects, experience performing or reviewing interconnection-related due diligence, including power-flow and contingency results, deliverability, affected-system exposure, network upgrades, and interconnection schedule risks, familiarity with transmission-planning software such as PSSE, TARA, PowerWorld, PSLF, or comparable platforms, and proficiency with Python, AMPL, R, Power BI, or other data-analysis and automation tools.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Serve as the internal subject-matter expert for production cost modeling, nodal basis forecasting, transmission congestion, and renewable energy curtailment analysis. Perform nodal market simulations using PowerGEM PROBE or comparable production cost modeling software to evaluate locational marginal prices, nodal and hub basis, congestion, curtailment, capture prices, dispatch, and energy delivery.
  • Develop and maintain modeling assumptions for generation additions and retirements, load growth, fuel and emissions prices, transmission topology and upgrades, outages, renewable profiles, storage operations, and applicable market rules.
  • Develop reference cases, sensitivities, and downside scenarios to assess how changes in generation, transmission, load, fuel prices, market conditions, and project configurations may affect project economics.
  • Identify and explain the physical and economic drivers of basis and curtailment, including local and regional transmission constraints, generation competition, renewable oversupply, outages, negative pricing, interconnection limitations, and project operating restrictions. Evaluate the impact of transmission upgrades, generation additions and retirements, new large loads, energy storage, and market-rule changes on project basis, congestion, curtailment, dispatch, and revenue.
  • Translate complex modeling results into clear recommendations for project siting, development, acquisitions, financial modeling, commercial strategy, investment approval, and portfolio management.
  • Establish internal methodologies, quality-control practices, and documentation standards for production cost, basis, congestion, and curtailment studies. Manage external transmission and market-analysis consultants, including developing scopes of work, defining study assumptions and scenarios, monitoring deliverables, and reviewing study conclusions.
  • Independently review and challenge consultant data sources, model configurations, transmission representations, generation and load assumptions, storage modeling, scenario selection, results, and recommendations.
  • Reconcile material differences among internal analyses, consultant forecasts, commercial market studies, and available ISO/RTO information. Perform or review interconnection-related due diligence when needed, including interconnection study results, queue position, power-flow and contingency findings, deliverability, injection constraints, network upgrades, affected-system exposure, cost allocation, and schedule risk.
  • Ensure consistency among production cost analyses, interconnection studies, energy assessments, commercial forecasts, and project financial models. Monitor relevant ISO/RTO transmission plans, interconnection queues, generation and load trends, market developments, and regulatory changes that could materially affect project economics.
  • Present modeling assumptions, uncertainties, limitations, findings, and recommendations to Development, Business Development, Finance, Power Marketing, Interconnection, Engineering, and senior leadership.
  • Contribute to internal analytical tools, transmission-market databases, model governance, study templates, and continuous improvement initiatives.

What You Bring:

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Systems, Operations Research, Applied Mathematics, Energy Economics, or a related quantitative discipline.
  • 5 years' experience in production cost modeling, transmission analysis, power-system planning, or electricity-market analysis. Demonstrated experience performing or independently reviewing nodal production cost studies in organized U.S. electricity markets.
  • Strong knowledge of power systems, transmission-network behavior, mathematical optimization, security-constrained unit commitment and economic dispatch, locational marginal pricing, congestion, basis, curtailment, and generator dispatch.
  • Experience developing model assumptions, reference cases, sensitivities, and downside scenarios for generation, load, transmission, fuel prices, renewable resources, storage, and market conditions.
  • Ability to analyze solar, wind, BESS, or hybrid projects and translate modeling results into actionable development, commercial, risk, and investment recommendations.
  • Experience managing external consultants and independently challenging their methodologies, assumptions, model configurations, results, and conclusions.
  • Strong analytical, data-management, quality-control, and communication skills, including the ability to explain complex technical findings and forecast uncertainty to technical and nontechnical stakeholders.
  • Capacity for occasional travel for industry conferences and team events.
