About This Role
Leila Day is in search of a high energy, enthusiastic teacher assistant for our After School Program who is familiar with and/or willing to learn about outdoor education, art education, and working with young children in an after-school context. The afternoon Teacher Assistant for the After School Adventure Program class supports the fulltime teachers in rolling out an emergent, developmentally appropriate curriculum that is reflective of children's interests, grounded in meaningful relationships, and filled with joyful learning and adventure. We encourage curiosity, exploration, experimentation and fun. Afternoon Assistants work under the supervision of the Teacher(s) in their classroom as well as the Assistant Director and the Director. The Leila Day staff has a commitment to progressive early childhood education, emphasizing play, inquiry, emotional intelligence, and experiential learning in the natural world. All staff work in a manner that promotes Leila Day's culture of respect, collaboration and kindness.

What You'll Do
- Collaborate with the Lead Teacher in cultivating an environment of creativity, exploration, and joy while supporting the emergent ideas of young children and helping them learn and grow.
- Help the Lead Teacher manage the classroom, including, but not limited to playing and working with the children, classroom organization and cleanliness, and curriculum planning.
- Support the Lead Teacher on trips and adventures in East Rock Park.
- Work with other Assistant Teachers and the Lead Teacher to assure the smooth functioning and flourishing of the team.
- Learn the specific challenges and opportunities afforded to the children and the teachers in the After School Program
- Support children 5-9, Kindergarten through 3rd grade find their interests in passions and help them bridge the demands of formal schooling and family life
Experience working with children
