About This Role
We are seeking a part time assistant teacher to work with us year round. We are a nature based child care center seeking candidates who enjoy being outdoors and active. Candidates must be flexible; be able to multi-task; and take guidance from the lead teachers. A positive attitude is a must. Most training for this position can be accomplished on the job (i.e., early childhood courses, CPR, SIDS, SBS, etc.). This position requires you to work with children ages 3 mos -5 yrs. The duties span from changing diapers, cleaning, and laundry to assisting with gardening, hiking, and other daily scheduled activities. Some of the experiences you will gain while working with us...taking hikes in the forest; trips to the park; enjoying water play in the backyard; ice skating behind the library; joining in the community festivities on the town square; enjoying a visit with the FFA farm animals; hatching baby chicks; growing yummy vegetables in our gardens; baking muffins; wet-on-wet painting; and much more! Primary work hours Thursdays and Fridays, 8:30 AM or 9:30AM – 5:30 PM. Additional availability: You may be asked to substitute on other days or times as needed to support the center's needs when staff are off. We may be open to discussing full time hours with the right candidate, M-F: 8:30/9:30AM-5:30PM.

What You'll Do
- Assist in the implementation of curricula activities and encourage participation by children.
- Actively engage in activities; manage cleanliness, order, and availability of classroom materials.
- Maintain frequent communications with parents through informal discussions
- Encourage self-help and good hygiene through behavior modeling.
- Help ensure smooth, daily transition from home to child care center.
- Follow all center policies and state regulations.
- Maintain personal professional development plan to ensure continuous quality improvement.

- Strong oral and written communication skills
- An understanding of child development.
- Infant/child CPR and First Aid certification (will provide if needed)
- Enjoys the outdoors/nature
- Must clear full background check.
- Must pass health screening.
- Training: CAN, SIDS, SBS, & ECE courses (will assist)
- Commitment to continuing education per DCF 251 requirements
- Attend monthly staff meetings
- Help & plan at least 2 festivals per year
- Experience with young children ages infant-12 years old
- Imitative for professional growth
- Domestic art skills
- Knowledge of Waldorf education
- Gardening experience/knowledge
- Degree in early childhood education or related field
