We are a growing custom manufacturing company focused on operational excellence, sound financial decision-making, and continuous improvement. As we scale up, we are seeking an experienced Accounting Advisor to provide part-time support to help us implement standard costing, inventory controls, variance reporting, and absorption analyses.
This role is an excellent fit for a recently retired or semi-retired manufacturing finance professional who enjoys staying engaged, sharing expertise, and contributing strategic insight without the commitment of a full-time position.
The Opportunity
This role will serve as a trusted advisor and trainer on manufacturing cost accounting matters, helping leadership better understand costs, margins, and efficiencies across our production operations. This position is consultative in nature and offers a flexible schedule of up to 20 hours per week.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide advisory support on manufacturing cost accounting practices, including standard costing, job costing, and overhead allocation
- Analyze material, labor, and overhead costs and provide insight into variances and margin drivers
- Assist with setting and maintaining standard costs and reviewing periodic cost updates
- Support budgeting, forecasting, and cost-related financial analysis
- Partner with operations leadership to identify cost-saving opportunities and process improvements
- Review inventory valuation, WIP, and cost-of-goods-sold reporting for accuracy and consistency
- Serve as a mentor or subject-matter resource to internal finance and accounting staff, as appropriate
Qualifications
- Significant experience in manufacturing cost accounting, likely as COF, controller or similar in discrete parts manufacturing environment.
- Strong understanding of production environments, inventory management, and cost drivers
- Hands-on experience with standard costing, variance analysis, and inventory accounting
- CPA, CMA, or equivalent professional experience preferred
- Comfortable working independently in an advisory or consultative capacity
- Strong analytical and communication skills
- Proficiency with accounting systems and Excel; ERP experience a plus
