Position Overview
As a Surgical Vet Tech / Veterinary Technician, you will play a critical role in surgical preparation, anesthesia monitoring, and post-operative recovery. This position is ideal for technicians who are passionate about veterinary surgery, anesthesia protocols, dental procedures, and advanced patient care.
Youâll work alongside experienced veterinarians in a hospital equipped with digital radiology, ultrasound, in-house diagnostics, and advanced surgical tools, contributing to high-quality outcomes and exceptional client service.
Here is What Your day May Consist of:
- Prepare patients for surgery, including pre-anesthetic exams, bloodwork, and IV catheter placement
- Induce, monitor, and recover patients under general anesthesia using modern anesthesia protocols
- Monitor vital parameters including ECG, SpO2, ETCO2, blood pressure, and temperature
- Maintain accurate anesthesia records and surgical logs
- Assist in soft tissue and orthopedic surgeries, ensuring sterile technique at all times
- Prepare and maintain sterile surgical packs, instruments, and equipment
- Perform dental prophylaxis, charting, and dental radiographs (dental x-rays)
- Take digital radiographs (X-rays) and assist with diagnostic imaging
- Administer medications via IV, IM, SQ routes, including CRIs and fluid therapy
- Operate and monitor fluid pumps, syringe pumps, and anesthesia machines
- Recognize and respond to anesthetic complications and emergency situations
- Support post-operative care, pain management, and patient recovery monitoring
- Assist with ultrasound procedures and advanced diagnostics
- Maintain a clean, organized, and compliant surgical suite
- Communicate effectively with veterinarians and provide clear client education and discharge instructions
- Certified Veterinary Technician (CVT, LVT, or RVT) preferred; experienced surgical technicians encouraged to apply
2 years of veterinary technician experience, with a strong focus on surgery and anesthesia
Advanced knowledge of anesthesia monitoring, pharmacology, and pain management
Experience with dental procedures, radiology, and laboratory diagnostics
Strong multitasking ability in a high-volume veterinary hospital
Excellent communication and teamwork skills
Ability to lift 50 lbs and work on your feet for extended periods
Comfortable handling animals of all sizes and temperaments
