Who We Are:

The ACORE staff bring decades of experience, passion, and dedication to their jobs, which translates into tenacious execution for our members and partners in driving the clean energy revolution forward. We believe in a clean energy future. We also believe in enjoying where you work. ACORE is proud to be named by The Nonprofit Times as one of the best nonprofits to work for in 2023.

Who We’re Looking For:

ACORE is seeking a director to manage campaigns related to our grid and transmission strategy including the implementation of the Macro Grid Initiative (MGI), an educational program focused on bolstering the nation’s transmission capacity by building new high-voltage regional and interregional power lines, deploying advanced transmission technologies, and developing an offshore grid.

The Director oversees day-to-day coordination with regional partners and allies, and supports advocacy at the federal, regional, and state levels. This position is ideal for a policy-savvy campaigner with subject-matter expertise in transmission and clean energy, strong coalition-building experience, and excellent communication and project management skills.

What You’ll Do:

Program Leadership & Coordination

  • Play a key role in ACORE’s engagement on grid policy — coordinating with team members across the organization to maximize impact of the MGI program and promote alignment with ACORE’s strategic objectives.

  • Manage and implement MGI’s national-regional-state strategy to promote high-voltage regional and interregional transmission and grid upgrades.

  • Supervise two MGI team members and designated consultants and serve as the primary day-to-day lead for internal and external teams working on grid campaigns, including staff, consultants, and regional partners.

  • Represent ACORE in external meetings, conferences, and coalition convenings.

Program Operations & Grant Support

  • Track and report on campaign deliverables, milestones, and partner activities ensuring accountability to funders and stakeholders.

  • Maintain organized records and summaries of campaign activities for reporting, coordination, and evaluation purposes.

  • Support fundraising efforts to renew and expand funding.

Federal & Regional Advocacy Support

  • Oversee engagement with regional clean energy partners including: management of subgrants, the coordination of regional engagement in Washington, D.C., and promotion of interregional planning efforts.

  • Cultivate relationships with strategically aligned organizations to advance pro-transmission reform in federal venues.

Communication & External Engagement

  • Guide campaign communications and Speakers’ Bureau strategy and create communications materials, including op-eds, fact sheets, talking points, slide decks, blogs, and briefings.

  • Lead rollout of reports, briefings, and webinars, contributing as an author when appropriate.

The Must-Haves:

  • Proven project and team management skills, with experience supervising staff or consultants and coordinating across teams.

  • Strong coalition-building, stakeholder engagement, and relationship management abilities.

  • 7 years of experience in energy policy, advocacy campaigns, or nonprofit program leadership, ideally with a focus on transmission or infrastructure.

  • Knowledge of federal and regional energy policy processes, particularly at FERC, DOE, and RTOs/ISOs.

  • Excellent writing and presentation skills, including the ability to translate technical topics for broad audiences with demonstrated success placing and disseminating materials.

  • Highly organized, detail-oriented, and self-directed.

  • Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree a plus.

The Perks of Working at ACORE:

  • Competitive salary.

  • Robust health care options.

  • Generous vacation policy with 15 vacation days in your first year.

  • 11 federal holidays, plus the week between Christmas and New Years.

  • Paid parental leave.

  • Hybrid work schedule with three days a week in the DC office.

  • 401(k) retirement plan that includes an employer contribution.

  • Educational assistance program.

  • Talented team members who care deeply about our mission and one another.
