Job description: Station Chef / Line Cook
Oversees a station in rotation in our small kitchen (e.g., grill, sauté, pantry, pastry).
We seek a detail-oriented, supportive station chef and line cook with a pleasant attitude to join our small team. Someone calm, with a professional demeanor, easy-going, no ego or drama. Someone reliable, motivated, and flexible with day-to-day responsibilities and scheduling.
To succeed in this role, the ideal candidate will have pride in their work, a hunger to learn and improve, and the humility to take feedback well. The ideal team player will be part of a drama-free team and will possess communication and multitasking skills.
Responsibilities:
- Assist and report to our Chef de Cuisine and Kitchen Supervisor
- Accept direction with a positive attitude
- Prepare and plate dishes matching Chef's creativity, attention to detail, and high standards
- Learning and understanding the details of Acopio's menu
- Be capable of using kitchen equipment and possess safe knife skills
- Ensure the station is set up with mise en place
- Maintain clean and organized areas at all times and control waste.
- Properly prepare, store, and label components of each dish in the station, meeting health and safety standards
- Stock newly received inventory and supplies.
- Maintain the station's daily prep levels, par levels, and update the order list.
- Participate in the cross-station training of a small kitchen and become proficient in multiple stations
- Be able to fill in and support as needed
- Maintaining a positive attitude and genuinely enjoying working with peers.
- Make family meals once a week
- Be willing to go above and beyond and provide prideful, detail-oriented work without being asked
- Coordinate supervisory work for yourself and other staff, working well with the team
- Attend employee meetings and be willing to offer suggestions for improvement
Requirements:
- Must have a valid Food Handlers Training certificate and California state harassment training
- No less than 4 years of experience in a similar role.
- An upscale restaurant experience is a plus, but not necessary if proficient and detail-oriented in the kitchen
- In-depth knowledge of restaurant best practices and cooking methods.
- Having an excellent attitude, communication and organizational skills, and a willingness to learn are non-negotiables
- Aptitude for multitasking
- Must be able to work cooperatively and efficiently in a team.
- Being able to speak Spanish & English is a plus, but not required.
- Scheduling: Work hours are Wednesday-Saturday, 2 pm-closing (9 pm – 10:30 pm), Sunday brunch 8 am-Closing (2 pm – 3 pm).
