CEC Healthcare is a not-for-profit organization providing integrated medical, behavioral health, dental, and supportive services to underserved communities across Long Island. We are seeking a Family Peer Advocate (FPA) to support families of youth with serious emotional disturbances (SED) as part of our ACT Youth Team.
Position Summary
The Family Peer Advocate uses lived experience as a caregiver to provide emotional support, advocacy, and guidance to families navigating mental health, school, and community systems. This is a field-based, community role working directly with families in their homes and local settings.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide peer-based emotional support and mentorship to caregivers
- Help families understand treatment plans and mental health needs
- Advocate for families across school, behavioral health, and social service systems
- Teach coping skills, parenting strategies, and wellness tools
- Connect families to community resources and services
- Collaborate with ACT team members including clinicians and case managers
- Complete timely documentation in compliance with HIPAA and NYS standards
Requirements
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- NYS Family Peer Advocate (FPA) Credential or provisional (required)
- Lived experience as a parent/caregiver of a child with behavioral or mental health challenges
- Valid NYS driver’s license and reliable transportation
- Basic computer skills and ability to complete electronic documentation
- Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings
