What are the responsibilities and job description for the Warehouse / Shipping & Receiving Associate – 1st & 2nd Shift position at ACI Plastics?
Full-Time | Flint, MI
ACI Plastics is looking for dependable, experienced warehouse associates to join our team. We currently have openings on both 1st and 2nd shift.
These are hands-on positions for people who know their way around a warehouse, are comfortable operating a propane forklift (Hi-Lo), and don’t need someone standing over them to keep moving.
While both shifts work together as one warehouse team, each shift has a different primary focus.
1st Shift – Shipping & Receiving / Warehouse
First shift is where the majority of our daily truck traffic happens. Your main responsibility will be keeping freight moving safely, accurately, and on schedule.
Primary responsibilities include:
- Loading and unloading trucks throughout the day
- Operating a propane forklift (Hi-Lo)
- Handling inbound and outbound shipments
- Pulling and staging material for outgoing loads
- Putting away incoming material
- Verifying material and quantities against shipping paperwork
- Working with BOLs and other shipping/receiving documents
- Keeping inventory organized and in the correct warehouse locations
- Assisting with cycle counts and inventory accuracy
- Keeping docks, aisles and warehouse areas clean and organized
- Using computers to track shipments and inventory
The priority on 1st shift is simple: keep the trucks and material moving.
2nd Shift – Warehouse / Inventory Support
Second shift supports the work completed during the day and gets the warehouse organized and ready for the next morning.
There may still be trucks to load or unload, but the primary focus of this position is warehouse organization, inventory accuracy and supporting 1st shift.
Primary responsibilities include:
- Pulling and staging any material that 1st shift was unable to complete
- Preparing material for the following day’s shipments
- Performing regular cycle counts
- Investigating and correcting inventory/location discrepancies
- Keeping material organized in its proper warehouse locations
- Consolidating and straightening warehouse inventory
- Repacking or correcting damaged cartons when necessary
- Maintaining clean aisles, docks and work areas
- Loading or unloading trucks when needed
- Operating a propane forklift (Hi-Lo)
- Helping make sure the warehouse is organized and ready for 1st shift the following morning
The goal of 2nd shift is to leave the warehouse better than you found it and set 1st shift up for a successful day.
What We’re Looking For
- Minimum 1 year of propane forklift (Hi-Lo) experience required
- Previous warehouse experience
- Shipping and receiving experience preferred
- Comfortable loading and unloading semi-trailers
- Ability to accurately count and identify material
- Basic computer skills
- Good attention to detail
- Dependable attendance
- Ability to work independently and stay productive without constant supervision
- Must be able to pass a written and driving forklift evaluation
Experience with Excel and/or Sage is a plus.
The Reality of the Job
This is a working warehouse. These are hands-on, physical positions, and you will stay busy.
Some days you’ll spend a lot of time on a forklift. Other days you’ll be staging material, counting inventory, straightening the warehouse, handling paperwork or helping wherever the workload requires it.
