Position Summary
The Senior Sanitary Engineer will serve as the technical lead and project manager for all sewer and water infrastructure projects. This role demands a high level of autonomy, allowing the engineer to manage projects from initial client contact and conceptual design through final construction administration. The ideal candidate will be an expert in hydraulic modeling, pipe design, and compliance within the state of Tennessee.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Design and Analysis: Lead the design and preparation of construction documents for gravity sewer systems, force mains, pump stations, and sewer rehabilitation projects.
- Hydraulic Modeling: Conduct hydraulic and hydrologic analysis for new and existing sewer networks.
- Project Management: Manage project schedules, budgets, and deliverables, ensuring technical quality and client satisfaction.
- Regulatory Compliance: Ensure all designs adhere to local, state, and federal regulations, including TDEC (Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation) requirements.
- Client and Agency Interface: Serve as the primary point of contact for municipal clients, utility districts, and regulatory agencies. Present project updates and secure necessary permits.
- Field Support: Provide technical support during the bidding phase and construction administration, including submittal reviews and responding to Requests for Information (RFIs).
Required Qualifications
- Experience: 5 years of progressive experience focused primarily on sanitary sewer, wastewater, and/or water conveyance infrastructure design.
- Licensing: Professional Engineer (PE) license is strongly preferred, with the ability to obtain licensure in Tennessee.
- Technical Proficiency: Expert-level fluency in specialized design software (e.g., AutoCAD Civil 3D) and hydraulic modeling software.
- Soft Skills: Proven ability to manage projects autonomously, mentor junior staff, and communicate complex technical concepts clearly to both clients and regulatory bodies.
