Electrical Estimator Lead
Job Overview
The Electrical Estimator Lead is responsible for overseeing the estimating process for electrical construction projects, from initial bid preparation through project award. This role leads a team of estimators, ensures accuracy and competitiveness of bids, and serves as a key liaison between preconstruction, project management, and field operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and mentor a team of electrical estimators, reviewing their work for accuracy, completeness, and competitive pricing
- Prepare, review, and submit detailed cost estimates for commercial, industrial, and/or residential electrical projects
- Analyze project drawings, specifications, and scopes of work to develop comprehensive material and labor takeoffs
- Solicit, evaluate, and negotiate pricing from vendors, subcontractors, and suppliers
- Coordinate with project managers, engineers, and clients during the bid phase to clarify project scope and requirements
- Maintain and update estimating databases, unit costs, and labor productivity benchmarks
- Identify project risks, value engineering opportunities, and cost-saving alternatives during the estimating process
- Track bid results and win/loss ratios to refine estimating strategies
- Ensure timely submission of bids and proposals in accordance with client deadlines
- Stay current with NEC code updates, industry trends, material pricing, and local labor market conditions
Qualifications
- 7 years of electrical estimating experience, with at least 2 years in a lead or senior capacity
- Strong knowledge of electrical systems, materials, installation methods, and labor requirements
- Proficiency in estimating software such as Accubid, Trimble, or similar platforms
- Ability to read and interpret electrical drawings, one-lines, and specifications
- Solid understanding of electrical codes (NEC) and local jurisdictional requirements
- Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills
- Experience with commercial, industrial, or utility-scale projects preferred
- Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Electrical Technology, Construction Management, or related field — or equivalent trade experience
Work Environment
This is primarily an office-based role with occasional site visits for project review or client meetings. The Electrical Estimator Lead may work under deadline pressure during active bid periods and is expected to manage multiple concurrent estimates.
Pay: $87,494.66 - $150,000.00 per year
