Principal Engineer (Wireless Telecom Devices)
Position Overview
We are seeking a Principal Engineer with exceptional technical expertise, strategic vision, and a passion for innovation in the wireless telecom domain. This is a high-impact, value-driven role—not a typical staff augmentation request. The ideal candidate will combine deep technical knowledge with business acumen, driving outcomes that influence the future of our wireless device initiatives.
The successful candidate will have hands-on experience with Android and iOS devices (phones, tablets, wearables), alongside a strong understanding of wireless technologies such as LTE, 5G, WiFi, and Bluetooth. This role demands both technical leadership and the ability to collaborate effectively with engineering, product, and vendor teams to align solutions with organizational strategy.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage technical engagements with vendors, internal teams, and cross-functional stakeholders.
- Translate complex business requirements into clear, actionable technical solutions.
- Define, present, and defend architectural and design decisions to technical and non-technical audiences.
- Research, evaluate, and provide strategic input on emerging wireless technologies and industry trends.
- Mentor and guide engineering teams, fostering alignment with strategic objectives.
- Author, review, and maintain high-quality technical documentation, evaluation plans, and formal recommendations.
Required Skills & Experience
- 10 years of experience in product development, requirements management, or related engineering fields.
- Strong understanding of wireless standards including CDMA, LTE, 5G, WiFi, Bluetooth, 3GPP, PTCRB, and GCF.
- Expertise in network and device log analysis (e.g., QXDM, Wireshark, IP packet captures).
- Hands-on experience with lab test equipment (network emulators, shield chambers, etc.).
- Solid knowledge of networking protocols (TCP/UDP, IP, DHCP, DNS).
- Proficiency with SQL, scripting languages, and collaboration tools (JIRA, Confluence).
- Proven track record of operating independently in fast-paced, matrixed environments.
- Excellent communication, collaboration, and stakeholder management skills.
