Technical Program Manager (Defense & Aerospace Electronics)

Position Overview
A growing defense and aerospace electronics manufacturer is seeking a Technical Program Manager to serve as the primary customer interface and internal program leader for complex hardware development and production programs.
This role is responsible for leading cross-functional execution across engineering, manufacturing, quality, supply chain, and operations while ensuring customer commitments are met for technical performance, schedule, cost, and deliverables. The Technical Program Manager will work directly with defense prime contractors, government stakeholders, and internal teams throughout the product lifecycle, from development through production.
This position is ideal for an engineer who has transitioned into project or program leadership and enjoys customer interaction, technical coordination, and driving accountability across multiple functional teams.
Key Responsibilities
- Serve as the primary customer point of contact for assigned defense and aerospace programs
- Lead Integrated Product Team (IPT) activities across engineering, manufacturing, quality, operations, procurement, and leadership teams
- Drive program execution by managing schedules, milestones, risks, action items, and deliverables
- Coordinate technical reviews, design reviews, customer meetings, and program status reporting
- Support customer communications throughout development, qualification, production, and sustainment phases
- Partner closely with engineering teams to maintain technical alignment and facilitate issue resolution
- Track program performance and proactively identify risks and mitigation plans
- Coordinate internal resources to ensure customer expectations and contractual commitments are met
- Support proposal efforts, customer presentations, program documentation, and business development activities as needed
- Interface directly with defense prime contractors, government customers, suppliers, and internal stakeholders
- Facilitate collaboration between engineering, manufacturing, procurement, and quality teams to support successful product delivery
- Contribute to the development and improvement of program management processes, tools, and best practices
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Systems Engineering, Engineering Technology, Program Management, Business, or a related technical discipline
- Minimum 3 years of experience in project management, program management, systems engineering, technical leadership, or a related role
- Experience supporting defense, aerospace, government, or highly regulated industries
- Strong customer-facing communication and presentation skills
- Experience coordinating cross-functional teams and managing competing priorities
- Ability to manage schedules, deliverables, risks, and customer expectations
- Experience participating in technical reviews, design reviews, or engineering development activities
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, including Excel, PowerPoint, and Microsoft Project or equivalent scheduling tools
- Ability to work onsite in a collaborative engineering and manufacturing environment
- U.S. Citizenship required
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or Systems Engineering
- Experience working directly with defense prime contractors and government customers
- Background in embedded systems, electronics, hardware development, system integration, or ruggedized products
- Experience operating within an Integrated Product Team (IPT) environment
- Familiarity with product development lifecycles, qualification testing, design reviews, and production transition activities
- Experience supporting proposals, technical documentation, and customer presentations
- PMP certification or formal program management training
- Experience working within AS9100 or other highly regulated quality environments
- Knowledge of military electronics, embedded computing, video processing, graphics technologies, or related defense systems
Salary : $120,000 - $135,000
