The Chief Engineer will supervise and coordinate the maintenance of the entire hotel facility, including physical building structure, mechanical, electrical, and life safety systems within budget, to ensure a well maintained, attractive and safe hotel.

CORE FOCUS & ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES 
Qualified candidates must be able to satisfactorily complete the following responsibilities. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Supervise Property Operations Department (Engineering and Rehabilitation), including architects, engineers, designers and contractors involved with rehabilitation, building addition projects and maintenance to provide a well maintained facility.
  • Maintain a safe and efficient operation of the entire hotel facility, including the physical building structure and all mechanical, electrical and life safety systems, ensuring compliance with applicable codes and operational requirements.
  • Maintain complete working knowledge of all property electrical, mechanical and building systems to ensure effective operational control and emergency response readiness.
  • Organize and coordinate Property Operations Department staffing, scheduling and personnel deployment to support continuous facility operations.
  • Oversee and support the Fire Life and Safety Director program, including shift coverage, certification compliance and training.
  • Develop departmental budgets and perform analysis, forecasting and reconciliation for repairs, maintenance and capital projects.
  • Support other operating departments in their day to day requirements and provide technical guidance regarding building facilities and infrastructure.
  • Maintain constant communication with the Housekeeping department to ensure guest rooms and public areas remain in proper operational condition.
  • Maintain effective energy management and preventive maintenance programs for the facility.
  • Adhere to all corporate purchasing policies and controls, including contractor bid procedures and approval requirements.
  • Maintain appropriate supply levels of materials, parts and equipment to support daily operations, repairs and emergency response needs.
  • Maintain an organized departmental system for inventory control, maintenance tracking and storage of tools, materials and equipment necessary to execute departmental activities.
  • Coordinate, prepare and manage all building contracts, service agreements and maintenance vendor relationships.
  • Assume responsibility for the overall facility health, safety and physical risk management of the hotel, ensuring building operations, infrastructure and equipment meet applicable safety standards, regulatory requirements and operational best practices.
  • Conduct and/or coordinate regular property-wide safety and building inspections of guest areas, back-of-house spaces, mechanical rooms, life safety equipment and structural elements to identify hazards and ensure timely corrective action, issuing reports as required.
  • Organize, support and maintain readiness for required regulatory inspections, certifications and compliance reviews by local authorities, corporate standards, insurance carriers and operational policies.
  • Maintain documentation of inspection findings, corrective actions and compliance status, and report significant safety risks or deficiencies to hotel leadership.
  • Partner with Security and hotel leadership to support emergency preparedness, building safety procedures and operational response planning.
  • Maintain and organize the property’s Lost & Found procedure in accordance with hotel policy.
  • Oversee Security personnel in coordination with hotel leadership regarding building safety systems and fire protection infrastructure.
  • Attend Safety meetings as established by the General Manager.
  • Proactively monitor critical building infrastructure including risers, shut-off valves, domestic water systems, sprinkler piping, freeze-risk areas and drainage systems to prevent operational failures, water incidents or service interruptions.
  • Investigate recurring maintenance or system issues, identify root causes and implement corrective actions to eliminate repeat failures and improve long-term operational reliability.
  • Maintain complete operational knowledge of all building emergency shutoffs, control points, risers, mechanical rooms and infrastructure layouts to ensure rapid response during facility emergencies.
  • Provide technical oversight of all external contractors and service vendors, validating scope of work, repair recommendations and system solutions to ensure operational necessity, cost effectiveness and long-term reliability.
  • Ensure proactive inspection and maintenance practices are implemented to minimize infrastructure failures, emergency incidents and guest-impacting building events.

SUPPORTING FUNCTIONS
In addition to the core focus & responsibilities, the candidate is expected to complete the following duties:

  • Report on a regular basis to the General Manager regarding the building conditions and performance of the Property Operations Departments progress on special projects.
  • Attend staff, budget, rehab, forecast, safety, and financial review meetings.
  • Hold weekly foremen meetings, monthly department and energy conservation meetings.

  • Knowledge and understanding of Atelier & Ace Culture & initiatives
  • Technologically sound with Microsoft Office applications.
  • Ability to compute basic mathematical calculations.
  • Knowledgeable electrical systems, components and devices, HVAC systems, mechanical systems, and the maintenance and repair of all, with the ability to analyze their design and performance.
  • Knowledgeable of construction and building systems; all related permits, licensing, new and existing codes pertaining to buildings and fire safety.
  • Visual ability to read manufacturer’s instructions, schematics and blueprints, to determine wire colors for safe repair and color coding.

REQUIRED EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
Must have a college degree in engineering or related field. Minimum 5 years experience in Engineering Supervision/Management in a similarly sized hotel. Previous hotel experience is required. Must have certifications, licenses, and/or training as required by local, state, and federal laws. Additional First Aid, CPR, and/or AED training is preferred.

Candidate must meet the following cognitive abilities:

  • Ability to understand guests’ service needs & requests.
  • Ability to acknowledge guests’ requests in a polite manner.
  • Ability to clearly communicate in verbal and written English (additional foreign languages are encouraged and preferred).
  • Ability to apply logical thinking and understanding to carry out written and oral instructions.
  • Ability to address and solve problems involving guest and operational issues.
  • Ability to compute basic mathematical calculations.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS / WORK ENVIRONMENT
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. The performance of this position may occasionally require exposure to the manufacturing areas where under certain areas require the use of personal protective equipment such as safety glasses with side shields and mandatory hearing protection. Primary environment: ambient room temperatures, lighting and traditional office equipment as found in a typical office environment.   • Sit, walk, and stand continuously.
  • Lift / carry up to 70 lbs frequently.
  • Bend, squat, crawl, and reach above shoulder level.

Salary : $14,000 - $135,000
