Job Title: Safety Manager – Tank Construction & Manufacturing (Exempt)
Location: Paso Robles, CA (with 40%–80% travel throughout Northern CA, WA, OR, TX, and other states)

Schedule: Monday–Thursday, 6:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., with flexibility based on operational needs
Salary: $75,000 – $95,000/year

Position Summary
The Safety Manager is responsible for the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of company-wide safety programs and compliance strategies across manufacturing, field construction, and tank service operations.
This role operates with a high level of independent judgment and discretion, serving as a key advisor to leadership on safety compliance, risk mitigation, and regulatory strategy. The Safety Manager evaluates complex safety conditions, interprets applicable regulations, and determines appropriate corrective actions that directly impact business operations, employee safety, and company liability.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the design, implementation, and oversight of comprehensive safety programs across multiple divisions and job sites
- Exercise independent judgment in interpreting OSHA, Cal/OSHA, and multi-state regulatory requirements, determining how they apply to company operations
- Conduct high-level safety evaluations and determine appropriate corrective actions, including authority to stop work when conditions present significant risk
- Partner with executive leadership to identify, assess, and reduce operational risk exposure, including recommending changes to policies, procedures, and workflows
- Analyze safety trends, incident data, and field conditions to develop strategic improvements and long-term prevention initiatives
- Oversee incident investigations and root cause analysis, determining corrective actions and prevention strategies, not just documenting events
- Develop and deliver safety training programs and initiatives aligned with regulatory requirements and company risk profile
- Provide guidance and direction to supervisors, foremen, and field personnel on safety compliance and best practices
- Maintain accountability for ensuring company-wide safety practices align with evolving regulatory standards and industry expectations
- Stay current on all applicable safety regulations and industry developments; recommend and implement necessary updates to company programs
Scope of Authority
- Authority to halt work activities when unsafe conditions or regulatory violations are identified
- Authority to implement and modify safety policies and procedures across divisions
- Acts as a subject matter expert and advisor to leadership on compliance, liability exposure, and safety-related business decisions
- Exercises discretion in prioritizing safety initiatives and allocating time across multiple projects and locations
Qualifications
- 5 years of progressive safety experience in construction, industrial, or manufacturing environments
- Strong working knowledge of OSHA, Cal/OSHA, and multi-state safety regulations
- Demonstrated ability to analyze complex situations and make independent decisions impacting safety and compliance
- Experience developing or managing safety programs (not just enforcing them)
- Strong communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills
- Ability to travel 40%–80% to job sites, including overnight or off-hours as needed
- Recommended but not required CSP (Certified Safety Professional), CHST (Construction Health & Safety Tech), OHST, OSHA 500/510
Physical Requirements
- Ability to access active construction and manufacturing environments, including climbing, balancing, kneeling, and lifting as necessary
- Must be able to observe and assess field conditions, including visual and environmental hazards
Exemption Classification Statement
This position is classified as exempt under applicable wage and hour laws, including California law, and is expected to exercise independent judgment and discretion on matters of significance related to company operations, safety compliance, and risk management.
