Adaptive Physical Education Teacher
Location: ACDS Pelham – Pelham, NY and ACDS Scarsdale – Scarsdale, NY
Salary: $45,000 - $60,000 per year

This position is shared between ACDS Pelham and ACDS Scarsdale and provides adaptive physical education services across both school locations.
ACDS Pelham and ACDS Scarsdale provide preschool special education programs consisting of 8:1:2 and 12:1:2 classes.
Schedule and Work Location
· 45-week school schedule, including Extended School Year (ESY) summer program.
· Monday through Friday schedule.
· Two days per week at ACDS Pelham and two days per week at ACDS Scarsdale.
· One day per week alternating between both locations.
· Hours: Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday from 8:15 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.; Wednesday from 8:15 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
Position Summary
The Adaptive Physical Education Teacher is responsible for providing adaptive physical education services to preschool students ages 3 to 5 years old with special needs based on their individual needs and motor ability levels. The goal of this position is to help prepare students for participation in public school physical education programs through assessment, curriculum development, and individualized instruction.
This role works closely with teachers, therapists, administrators, and families as part of a multidisciplinary team.
Essential Responsibilities
· Teach physical education concepts and curriculum to preschool students in assigned classes.
· Assess student motor skills and fitness levels and adapt curriculum to meet individual needs.
· Develop and implement physical education activities aligned with classroom themes, goals, and objectives.
· Maintain daily lesson plans and submit them weekly to the Principal.
· Review student IEPs and complete required documentation.
· Observe student behavior and modify activities based on individual abilities and needs.
· Collaborate with teachers, therapists, and other staff to plan appropriate physical education activities.
· Obtain and maintain materials and equipment needed to teach motor and fitness skills.
· Maintain organization, storage, and inventory of physical education equipment.
· Communicate with parents, administration, and colleagues regarding student progress and class performance.
· Utilize positive behavior supports and effective classroom management techniques.
· Assist with special events, staff trainings, orientation days, and other school activities as requested.
· Maintain confidentiality of student information in accordance with FERPA, HIPAA, agency policies, and regulations regarding social media, texting, and cell phone use.
· Assist in classrooms when needed.
· Perform other related duties as assigned by the Principal or designee.
Physical Requirements
· Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
· Ability to move heavy cones, mats, and other physical education equipment.
Qualifications
· Bachelor’s degree in Physical Education required.
· New York State Certification in Physical Education required.
· CPR certification preferred.
· Experience working with preschool students with special needs strongly preferred.
