Job Title: Receiving Supervisor
LOCATION: ISLANDIA, NY
Position Overview
The Fresh Receiving Supervisor is responsible for overseeing all inbound fresh product operations within the distribution center. This role ensures accuracy, food safety, quality compliance, and efficient workflow across all receiving activities, while leading a team of associates to maintain high operational standards. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, thrives in a fast-paced environment, and brings strong leadership and communication skills to support daily fresh receiving operations.
Note: This operation runs 24/7, and individual schedules are determined by volume and client needs. Weekend availability is required and the facility is only closed three days each year.
Key Responsibilities
Receiving Operations
- Supervise all fresh receiving processes, including scheduling inbound loads, verifying shipments, and ensuring proper dock utilization.
- Monitor and manage inbound product flow to maintain accuracy, efficiency, and compliance with company and regulatory standards.
- Ensure timely unloading, checking, palletizing, and staging of all fresh goods.
- Review bills of lading, temperature logs, and receiving documents for accuracy and compliance.
- Maintain real-time communication with procurement, inventory control, and warehouse leadership regarding inbound shipments and discrepancies.
Quality & Food Safety
- Verify product quality upon receipt, including temperature checks, condition assessments, and adherence to food safety protocols.
- Identify and document shortages, damages, mis-shipments, and quality issues; escalate concerns as required.
- Enforce cold chain integrity throughout all receiving processes.
- Partner with quality teams to resolve product issues and ensure compliance with company standards.
Team Leadership
- Supervise, train, and coach Receiving Clerks, Forklift Operators, and other receiving personnel.
- Assign daily tasks and monitor performance to meet operational goals.
- Support onboarding and skill development for new team members.
- Foster a safe, high-performing, and collaborative team environment.
Inventory Coordination
- Collaborate closely with Inventory Control to ensure accurate counts, adjustments, and documentation.
- Oversee proper labeling, placement, and rotation of all fresh goods entering the warehouse.
- Ensure accurate entry of receiving data into WMS systems.
Safety & Compliance
- Enforce all safety procedures, GMPs, and sanitation standards within the receiving area.
- Conduct safety observations and ensure associates follow equipment and PPE guidelines.
- Maintain cleanliness, organization, and compliance within dock and staging areas.
Reporting & Documentation
- Complete daily receiving logs, productivity reports, and discrepancy documentation.
- Track and report KPIs including on-time receiving, accuracy, dock efficiency, and quality issues.
- Support audits and maintain compliant recordkeeping as required.
Qualifications
Education & Experience
- High school diploma or GED required; some college or vocational training preferred.
- 2–4 years of experience in receiving or warehouse operations, preferably within fresh food distribution.
- Prior experience in a supervisory or lead role required.
Skills & Competencies
- Strong understanding of receiving workflows, fresh product handling, and cold chain management.
- Proficiency in warehouse management systems (WMS) and basic computer applications.
- Excellent communication, leadership, and decision-making skills.
- Ability to work in refrigerated environments for extended periods.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to resolve operational issues quickly.
- Ability to multitask and work in a high-volume, fast-paced environment.
Working Conditions
- Work is performed inside refrigerated (cooler) and frozen environments as needed.
- Requires standing, walking, and operating warehouse equipment for extended periods.
- Flexibility for overtime, weekends, and varying schedules based on operational needs.
