Role Description
The Community Outreach Coordinator is a hands-on, community-facing role focused on surrender prevention, return-to-owner efforts, and expanding access to pet care resources in Philadelphia neighborhoods. This position works closely with internal teams and external partners to provide education, resources, and direct support to pet owners and the community through proactive outreach and community-based programming.
A central part of this role is building trust and visibility in the community—being a consistent, approachable presence that pet owners recognize and feel comfortable turning to for help. The Coordinator will also play a key role in outreach and awareness efforts around new legislation and programs and services.
Core Responsibilities
Community Outreach & Education
● Orchestrate outreach campaign to raise awareness of new laws, programs, and services impacting pet owners, including free spay/neuter initiatives
● Conduct proactive, in-person outreach in neighborhoods, with a focus on high-intake zip codes
● Provide information on low-cost veterinary care, spay/neuter services, vaccination options, and general pet care
● Educate community members about responsible pet ownership, rehoming alternatives, and available support resources
● Develop and distribute printed and digital outreach materials highlighting resources from ACCT and partner organizations
● Communicate with community leaders and partner organizations to ensure events meet neighborhood needs and are accessible to residents
● Provide welcoming, respectful, and solution-focused assistance to members of the public seeking services or support
● Support surrender prevention efforts by connecting pet owners with resources, alternatives, and educational guidance
● Assist with return-to-owner processes in collaboration with relevant teams
● Apply program policies and procedures consistently while maintaining a compassionate, non-judgmental approach
● Assist with planning and executing pet pantry distributions, vaccination clinics, and other community events
● Coordinate logistics including scheduling, supplies, space setup, and volunteer support
● Represent ACCT Philly as a professional, approachable ambassador at community events
● Work closely with other ACCT Philly departments to ensure aligned service delivery
● Serve as a point of contact and liaison for community organizations, city agencies, and similar entities.
● Follow up with pet owners identified by intake staff or officers as needing additional support
● Track outreach activities, program data, and outcomes to support reporting and program improvement
● Maintain inventory, order supplies, and assist with operational tasks as needed
● Follow established cash-handling, scheduling, and reporting procedures
● Perform general departmental duties and support special projects as assigned

● Willingness to work a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends, to meet community needs
● At least two years experience in animal welfare, community service or social services preferred
● Must have minimum one year work experience doing community outreach
● Experience coordinating or supporting community-based events (e.g., pet pantries, vaccination clinics, outreach initiatives) required
● Social work education or experience is a plus
● Spanish language skills strongly preferred
