Laboratory Director

ABOUT THE ROLE

The Lab Manager oversees the day-to-day operations of Accredited Labs' analytical and microbiology testing functions supporting nutraceutical and dietary supplement manufacturing. This role ensures accurate, compliant, and timely testing of raw materials, in-process samples, and finished products in accordance with cGMP (21 CFR 111), FDA regulations, and applicable industry standards (USP, AOAC, ISO/IEC 17025, NSF). The Lab Manager leads a team of analysts and technicians, manages instrumentation and method validation, and partners closely with Quality, Production, R&D, and clients to keep testing on schedule and audit-ready. The schedule for this position is 7:00am - 4:00pm Monday through Friday.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES

Laboratory Operations & Testing

• Oversee daily operations of the analytical and microbiology lab, ensuring testing schedules meet client and internal turnaround commitments.
• Ensure all testing (identity, potency, heavy metals, microbial, dissolution, and other required assays) is performed per validated methods and current SOPs.
• Review and approve test data, Certificates of Analysis (COAs), and batch records prior to release.
• Lead method validation/verification activities and drive root-cause investigation for out-of-specification (OOS) or out-of-trend (OOT) results.

Staff Management & Development

• Hire, train, mentor, and manage lab technicians and analysts.
• Conduct performance reviews, build staff schedules, and support cross-training across testing functions.

Compliance & Quality

• Maintain compliance with 21 CFR 111 dietary supplement cGMP requirements, FDA regulations, and relevant accreditation standards (ISO/IEC 17025, NSF, A2LA) as applicable.
• Develop, review, and maintain SOPs, work instructions, and testing protocols.
• Ensure lab safety compliance with OSHA requirements, chemical hygiene plan, and PPE protocols.

Equipment & Resources

• Oversee calibration, maintenance, and qualification schedules for lab instrumentation (HPLC, GC, ICP-MS, UV-Vis, and related equipment).
• Manage lab supply inventory, reagents, reference standards, and vendor relationships for outsourced testing.

Audits & Reporting

• Support internal and external audits, including client audits, FDA inspections, and third-party certification body assessments.
• Track and report key lab KPIs (turnaround time, first-time-right rate, testing backlog, etc.) to leadership.
• Coordinate with Production, QA, R&D, and Supply Chain to align testing schedules with manufacturing timelines.

General & Additional Duties

• Assist with other lab or quality tasks as assigned to support department and company objectives.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Quality & Efficiency

• Testing is completed accurately, on schedule, and to specification, with turnaround times meeting client and internal targets.
• Method validations and troubleshooting are handled efficiently with minimal disruption to testing schedules.

Compliance & Safety

• Batch records, COAs, and lab documentation are complete, accurate, and audit-ready at all times.
• Safety procedures and PPE requirements are followed consistently, with no avoidable incidents.

Team Contribution

• The Lab Manager builds a reliable, well-trained team capable of meeting testing demands with consistent accuracy.

QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS

EDUCATION

• Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Biology, Food Science, or a related scientific field required; Master's degree preferred.

SKILLS REQUIRED

• 5 years of laboratory experience in nutraceutical, pharmaceutical, food, or dietary supplement testing, including 2 years in a supervisory or management role.
• Strong working knowledge of cGMP (21 CFR 111/117), USP/NF, and AOAC methods, along with hands-on experience with analytical instrumentation (HPLC, GC, ICP-MS, UV-Vis, etc.).
• Experience with LIMS and electronic documentation systems.
• Demonstrated leadership, staff development, and cross-functional communication skills.
• Detail-oriented with strong problem-solving and root-cause investigation abilities.

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE (NOT REQUIRED)

• Experience supporting regulatory or client audits and accreditation processes (ISO 17025, NSF, A2LA).
• Prior experience in a contract testing laboratory environment.

Pay: $110,000.00 per year
