Job Overview:
We are seeking a detail-oriented Senior Medical Payment Posting Team Lead to join our team. The ideal candidate will have a background in medical billing and coding, familiarity with ICD-10 and DRG coding systems, and experience in medical office operations.
POSITION PURPOSE
The Senior Team Lead – Payment Posting is responsible for managing and overseeing daily in-office payment posting operations. This role ensures timely and accurate posting of insurance and patient payments, maintains compliance and quality standards, and provides hands-on leadership and real-time support to the team. The specialist works closely with billing, payment posting, payer representatives, and patient financial services to maintain financial integrity and support regulatory compliance.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Oversee payer and patient payment posting to ensure timely handling of deposits, monitor workload, and posting accuracy.
2. Investigate misapplied payments, duplicate payments, incorrect adjustments, and posting errors.
3. Perform account corrections, adjustments, and transfers to accurately resolve posting errors.
4. Learn and be available to assist with payment posting in multiple PM systems.
5. Provide feedback and coaching where needed to improve accuracy.
6. Identify trends in payment discrepancies and escalate issues as appropriate so root cause problems can be corrected.
7. Identify areas for potential workflow optimization and process improvement including use or automation and artificial intelligence.
8. Assist with month-end close activities related to cash and revenue accounts
9. Maintain thorough documentation of account actions, refund decisions, and communication trails.
10. Maintain compliance with internal controls, policies, and healthcare regulations

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Education, Training, Certification and Experience:

- 2–4 years of experience in medical billing, accounts receivable, or cash reconciliation
- Experience working with healthcare revenue cycle processes
- Strong understanding of EOBs, ERAs, and payer remittance processes
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and financial systems
- Strong attention to detail and analytical skills
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
- Experience with practice management systems (e.g., Epic, NextGen, Athena, eClinicalWorks)
- Knowledge of healthcare compliance regulations (HIPAA, payer guidelines)
- Experience with bank reconciliation and general ledger processes
- Experience and ability to effectively lead and manage teams
