About the Role:
We are seeking a Clinical Nursing Director for Perioperative Services who will lead and manage nursing care operations across OR, PACU, Central Sterile, and Ambulatory Surgery Centers. This is a sign-on bonus eligible leadership role critical to the hospital s nursing leadership structure. You'll be joining a supportive and close-knit team and will play a pivotal role in delivering high-quality, patient-centered care while maintaining operational excellence in an inpatient perioperative setting.
Essential Responsibilities:
- Plan, organize, direct, evaluate, and coordinate inpatient perioperative nursing services.
- Collaborate with executive leaders, physicians (TPMG partners), and interdisciplinary teams to develop and execute strategic plans focused on quality, service improvement, cost management, and regulatory compliance.
- Lead operational initiatives including hospital efficiency, supply cost initiatives (including OR backlog reduction), workplace safety, and patient satisfaction.
- Direct the hiring, development, and retention of nursing staff with a focus on building a high-performing team and reducing reliance on premium pay staffing solutions.
- Develop, oversee, and maintain compliance with hospital policies, federal/state/local regulations, and accrediting body standards.
- Utilize KP Health Connect and other systems to evaluate quality of care, manage clinical operations, and maintain documentation standards.
- Lead budget planning, resource allocation, financial performance management, and cost reduction strategies.
- Maintain a state of continuous readiness for regulatory audits and certifications.
- Mentor and coach nursing managers to strengthen leadership skills, support professional development, and promote outcome-based practices.
- Manage labor relations and employee safety/risk management issues effectively within a collective bargaining environment.
- Advocate for the hospital and represent it positively in the broader community and health system.
Required Qualifications:
- Education: Master's degree in Nursing (or BSN with a Master's degree in a related field).
- Licensure: Current California Registered Nurse License (must be active at the time of hire).
- Experience:
- Minimum 7 years of nursing experience in patient care.
- Minimum 5 years of management/leadership experience in healthcare, specifically in inpatient perioperative environments (OR/PACU).
- Other:
- In-depth understanding of federal and state healthcare regulations (e.g., Nurse Practice Act, Joint Commission standards, Knox-Keene Act).
- Strong interpersonal, leadership, and change management skills.
- Ability to work effectively within a Labor/Management Partnership environment.
- Must demonstrate the ability to lead cross-functional initiatives with a focus on quality, safety, and patient-centered care.
Non-Negotiable Requirements:
- Master s Degree in Nursing.
- Strong Perioperative background (OR, PACU experience).
- Inpatient Operating Room experience.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Magnet hospital/shared governance experience.
- Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) or PhD in Nursing.
- Experience managing in a unionized (collective bargaining) environment.
- National Certification (to be obtained within 1 year if not already held).
- Familiarity with Kaiser Permanente systems and protocols is a plus.
