The Full-Time Lead Janitor oversees and manages Accord staff and communicates with the Contracting Officer Representative (COR) at the Knoxville, TN, Veterans Affairs Medical Center (VAMC) and the on-site Accord Supervisor. The Lead adheres to any training required by Accord and/or the Knoxville, TN VAMC.
This is a 2nd shift position with an approximate 3:00 PM start time.
Janitorial Duties
Cleans and keeps in an orderly condition assigned areas and washrooms, or premises of an office, VA medical facility, or other government establishment. Duties involve a combination of the following: Sweeping, mopping or scrubbing, and polishing floors; removing chips, trash, and other refuse; dusting equipment, furniture, or fixtures; polishing metal fixtures or trimmings; providing supplies and minor maintenance services; and cleaning lavatories, showers, and restrooms. Cleaning tasks could include but not be limited to the following:
- Assigned Areas – Dust mop and damp mop floors, dust chairs. Clean, disinfect and polish water fountain, front doors glass, frame and thresholds. Spot clean walls, all doors, door frames, and areas around light switches and magazine racks, replace trash liners as required.
- Restrooms - sanitization cleaning of lavatories, all fixtures, floors, toilet seat & bowl (inside and out), mirrors, soap dispensers, trash cans, underside of sinks and pipes, faucets, paper towel holders, walls, doorknobs, ledges and light switches. Hospital grade germicide will be used on sinks and toilets. Refill all dispensers.
- Floors - shall be dust mopped and wet mopped with disinfectant/detergent as stated in specifications. Stripping, waxing/buffing floors per schedule.
Lead Duties
· Monitors the cleanliness of the VAMC by performing daily/hourly checks of the work by employees and assisting others in re-doing cleaning if necessary.
· Providing cleaning coverage for employee absences when necessary.
· Assists the Supervisor in leading employees to work efficiently, maintaining reports, and other items as requested by the Supervisor.
Requirements
- Management experience necessary.
- MUST be able to pass a background check and be cleared to work in a VA Medical Facility.
- Must have a REAL ID and be fingerprinted to work in a VA Medical Facility.
- Military veterans preferred.
- Functions well around patients, staff and visitors in a clinical setting.
- Proven experience as a custodian, or in a similar role.
- Floor stripping/waxing experience preferred.
- Knowledge of use and maintenance of industrial cleaning equipment and appliances.
- Knowledge of safe disposal of chemicals.
- Attention to detail and conscientiousness.
- Good physical condition and strength.
- High school diploma is preferred but not required.
