Position Summary:
The Accounting Clerk is a full-time, on-site role based in Knoxville TN. This position is responsible for performing routine clerical, filing, and data entry tasks for accounting data including accounts payable, billing, and receivables. The Accounting Clerk will work closely with the finance team to ensure compliance with internal policies and applicable government regulations and may prepare routine reports and respond to audit or documentation requests.
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Conducts routine data entry management for accounting records including accounts payable, billing, and accounts receivable.
- Reviews billing statements, invoices, and similar documents for accuracy; alerts supervisory staff of any discrepancies.
- Distributes accounting reports as directed.
- Distributes mail, answers telephones, and other clerical tasks as needed.
- Maintains financial records and ensures that financial transactions are properly recorded.
- Ensures the accuracy of entries to ledger accounts.
- Reconciles subsidiary ledger accounts to the general ledger.
- Compiles financial data as needed/requested in the preparation of balance sheets, P&L statements, and other financial reports.
- Assists in analyzing current costs, revenues, financial commitments, and obligations incurred.
- Conducts audits and ensures adherence to accounting principles and regulations.
- Works on projects/matters of limited complexity in a support role.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Required Skills/Abilities:
- Ability to accurately and efficiently enter data into computer software and systems.
- Basic mathematical skills.
- Good verbal communication skills.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite or related software.
Education/Experience:
- Associates or bachelors degree in accounting, finance, or business.
- Accounting experience can be substituted in lieu of degree.
- Government accounting experience is preferred.
Physical Requirements:
- Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
