Accola is seeking a reliable, self-directed Maintenance Technician to join our team.

The Part-Time Maintenance Technician supports the safe, clean, and efficient operation of Accola’s two facilities: our adult English language school and our 24-hour residential program. This role performs routine maintenance, small repairs, preventive tasks, and safety checks, and assists with room setups and light operational support. The technician also serves as an onsite contact for vendors and reports larger facility issues to the Vice President of Finance and Operations or the landlord, as appropriate.

This role is essential for maintaining a welcoming learning environment for students and a safe, stable home for the residents we serve.

General Facilities Maintenance (Both Locations)

  • Perform routine repairs, such as replacing light bulbs, tightening hardware, patching small wall damage, adjusting doors, replacing ceiling tiles, and minor plumbing fixes (e.g., unclogging drains).
  • Conduct regular walkthroughs to identify facility needs and safety concerns.
  • Perform light interior painting, caulking, and touch-ups.
  • Assemble, move, or install furniture and equipment as requested.
  • Maintain clean and organized maintenance and storage areas.

Preventive Maintenance & Safety

  • Conduct basic safety checks (fire extinguishers, exit signs, emergency lighting).
  • Replace batteries in smoke detectors if site-managed.
  • Change filters on small interior units not maintained by the HVAC vendor.
  • Maintain safe walkways and ensure emergency exits remain clear.

Vendor Coordination & Reporting

  • Serve as the onsite contact for contractors, inspectors, and service vendors.
  • Document and escalate facility issues beyond the technician’s scope (e.g., major plumbing, HVAC repairs, structural concerns, security system issues).
  • Communicate progress on maintenance requests and keep accurate logs.

Adult English Language School

  • Support classroom and common space maintenance.
  • Reset classrooms or assist with event setups (tables, chairs, signage).
  • Perform light spot-cleaning between custodial visits (e.g., spills, debris).
  • Restock restrooms and supply areas if needed between contracted cleanings.

24-Hour Residential Facility

  • Respond to small repair requests in resident rooms and common areas (fixtures, blinds, basic hardware).
  • Support staff with furniture moves, and safety concerns.
  • Monitor shared-use areas (hallways, stairwells, laundry room) for hazards.
  • Conduct preventive touch-ups in high-traffic areas.

Administrative & Recordkeeping

  • Track and complete work orders in a timely manner.
  • Maintain an inventory of essential maintenance supplies.
  • Document safety inspections and report recurring issues.
  • Provide clear communication to staff about completion timelines and priorities

Required Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Demonstrated experience with general building maintenance or repair
  • Basic knowledge of tools, safety practices, and minor plumbing/electrical tasks
  • Ability to lift/move up to 50 lbs and perform physical tasks
  • Strong communication and time-management skills
  • Ability to work independently at two separate facilities

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in a residential or education setting
  • Familiarity with safety codes and inspection requirements
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation
