The Medical Technologist performs advanced testing on patient and donor samples, interpreting results per regulatory and organizational standards.
Key duties include: accepting, verifying, and processing blood samples and components; conducting and interpreting various tests; maintaining accurate records; performing quality control, calibration, and equipment maintenance; resolving patient care issues related to transfusion; supervising lab assistants and technicians; utilizing computer systems for data management; monitoring testing processes for errors; participating in on-call rotations; and performing duties of Lab Technicians and Assistants as needed.
Qualifications: a bachelor's degree in a biological or related science, at least one year of experience, and a valid Florida Clinical Laboratory Technologist license in Immunohematology or Blood Banking.
Skills and abilities: knowledge of technical procedures and regulations, strong organizational and communication skills, ability to operate equipment, basic computer proficiency, and flexibility to travel and respond during emergencies.
Physical and environmental demands: lifting up to 50 pounds, possible exposure to adverse conditions, blood-borne pathogens, and moderate noise levels.
