Overview Of Primary Responsibilites
The CASAC will serve as a key member of the Integrated Outpatient Program (Articles 36), delivering harm-reduction-based substance use and mental health services. The role involves providing assessment, counseling (individual, group, and family), and care coordination services across outpatient sites and in the community. We welcome our CASACs to integrate lived or shared experience into therapeutic care and collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to support clients in achieving their recovery goals.

Primary Functions
- Conduct initial assessments and intakes for new clients.
- Utilize screening tools such as the PHQ-9, GAD-7, AUDIT, NIDA, DAST, CAGE-AID, and Fagerstrom to thoroughly assess client needs.
- Complete LOCADTR assessments and SBIRT delivery. Be familiar with local resources in order to refer to alternate levels of care.
- Connect individuals with MAT, as needed.
- Develop and maintain individualized treatment plans.
- Deliver individual, group, and family counseling using evidence-based and trauma-informed approaches.
- Maintain up-to-date and accurate documentation in compliance with agency and regulatory standards.
- Provide crisis intervention and stabilization support as needed.
- Collaborate closely with therapists, physicians, nurses, and peer advocates to ensure integrated care.
- Travel between program sites in Middletown, Newburgh, and other locations in Orange County.
- Conduct assessments and provide support services in the community when necessary.
- Train and distribute Narcan to clients, their supports, and community members.
- Participate in case conferences, clinical supervision, and team meetings.
- Support program development and quality improvement initiatives.
- Adhere to all agency policies, procedures, and smoke-free campus requirements.
- Maintain confidentiality in accordance with part 42 CFR part 2 and uphold ethical standards in client interactions.
- CASAC Certification (required).
- Peer Certification (strongly preferred).
- Strong engagement and interpersonal communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team.
- Commitment to harm reduction, person-centered care, and recovery-oriented principles.
- Experience working with both substance use and co-occurring mental health disorders.
- Minimum 1 year of experience in the substance use field (3 years preferred).
- Minimum 1 year of experience in mental health services (3 years preferred).
- Bachelor’s degree in Social Work, Mental Health Counseling, Psychology, or related field (preferred).
- Valid driver’s license and ability to travel within Orange County.
