Position Overview
Access Justice Brooklyn (AJB) is currently seeking an attorney to handle homeowner and consumer matters as part of AJB’s economic justice program. This is a great opportunity for an entry-level or junior attorney to build litigation skills through our high-volume practice, learn from AJB’s experienced staff, and receive cross-training in ancillary practice areas as our economic justice program grows.
Under the supervision of AJB’s Supervising Attorney, Economic Justice, this position will represent low-income homeowners in foreclosure cases, prepare loan modification and loss mitigation applications for homeowners, and provide consultations to homeowners through court-based foreclosure assistance clinics. The attorney will also help operate the Civil Legal Advice and Resource Office (CLARO) clinic in Brooklyn Civil Court each week, providing advice to unrepresented individuals facing debt collection, and offer limited-scope representation to consumer defendants through the court’s Volunteer Lawyer for the Day (VLFD) program. As they progress in their role, the attorney will also learn to prepare and file bankruptcy petitions for homeowner and consumer clients, as applicable.
In addition to managing a personal caseload, the attorney will assist in the training and supervision of volunteer attorneys and law students who join our staff in representing AJB clients.
This position is currently hybrid, with three days per week in AJB’s Downtown Brooklyn office.

- Participate in special projects and events, including fundraising and volunteer recognition events, as needed
