Responsibilities
- Review and process medical claims using appropriate coding systems such as DRG, CPT, ICD-9, ICD-10, and ICD coding standards
- Ensure accurate documentation of medical records and proper coding for billing purposes
- Submit claims electronically through EMR/EHR systems and follow up on unpaid or denied claims
- Perform medical collection activities to recover outstanding balances while maintaining compliance with healthcare regulations
- Collaborate with healthcare providers to clarify diagnoses and procedures as needed for accurate billing
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of coding guidelines, payer policies, and industry regulations
- Assist in resolving billing discrepancies and patient account issues promptly
- Support the review of medical records for completeness and accuracy related to billing processes
- Communicate with patients, insurance companies, and internal departments regarding billing issues
- Post payments, adjustments, and reconcile accounts
- Monitor aging reports and follow up on outstanding balances
- Provide support in audits and reporting as needed
Qualifications
- Proven experience in medical billing, medical coding, or revenue cycle management within a healthcare setting
- Strong knowledge of DRG, CPT coding, ICD-9, ICD-10, and ICD coding standards
- Familiarity with EMR/EHR systems and medical office operations
- Understanding of medical terminology and medical records management
- Experience with medical collections and insurance claim processing
- Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills to ensure accurate billing and coding procedures
- Ability to stay current with industry updates related to coding guidelines and healthcare regulations
- Prior experience working with healthcare software platforms is preferred
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
