Maintenance Technician
Access Community Action Agency is seeking a reliable and skilled Maintenance Technician to support safe, clean, and well-maintained buildings and grounds across agency properties. This position plays an important role in keeping our programs operational and ensuring our facilities meet safety, accessibility, and compliance standards.
The Maintenance Technician performs routine and emergency maintenance, completes work orders, supports preventive maintenance, and responds to facility needs across Access properties. This position is ideal for someone who is hands-on, safety-focused, dependable, and able to work independently.

Schedule: Full-time
On-Call Requirement: This position participates in scheduled on-call rotation for alarms and after-hours maintenance emergencies.
Key Responsibilities
- Maintain safe and operable buildings and grounds.
- Perform routine and emergency maintenance tasks across Access properties.
- Respond promptly to work orders and maintenance requests, prioritizing safety and building function.
- Complete repairs involving carpentry, basic plumbing, electrical, painting, landscaping, and general facility upkeep.
- Identify maintenance concerns, safety hazards, and needed improvements, and report them to the supervisor in a timely manner.
- Operate tools and equipment safely and competently.
- Use hand tools, power tools, ladders, lifts, and related equipment in accordance with OSHA standards, agency procedures, and manufacturer guidelines.
- Follow all required procedures for equipment operation, personal protective equipment, and hazard prevention.
- Maintain accurate logs of maintenance work performed.
- Ensure compliance with safety regulations and procedures.
- Follow OSHA, fire safety, Connecticut State Building Code, and agency safety requirements.
- Participate in agency safety meetings, inspections, and related follow-up as requested.
- Serve as an on-call maintenance responder for alarms or after-hours emergencies as scheduled.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma, GED, or equivalent required. Extensive relevant work experience will be considered in place of a formal diploma.
- Minimum of three years of experience in building maintenance, general repairs, or skilled trades.
- Valid driver’s license from state of residence.
- Ability to work independently and follow written and verbal instructions.
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
- Working knowledge of building systems, safety codes, and preventive maintenance.
- Ability to lift and carry heavy objects, climb ladders, and operate maintenance tools safely.
- Effective time management and communication skills.
- Basic computer skills, including the ability to learn agency systems and use Google Workspace or similar platforms.
Physical Requirements
- This position requires frequent standing, walking, climbing stairs or ladders, and use of hands to operate tools and equipment.
- The employee must regularly lift or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift or move up to 70 pounds.
- The employee must be able to perform full-body movements, including crouching, kneeling, bending, reaching overhead, and working from ladders or elevated surfaces.
- The employee must be able to wear appropriate personal protective equipment, such as gloves, safety goggles, boots, and hard hats.
- The employee must be able to hear fire and safety alarms and communicate effectively with employees, vendors, and program staff.

Work Environment
- This position works in a variety of indoor and outdoor settings across agency properties.
