The Accounts Payable Accountant supports the finance team by managing vendor invoices, payments, and expense records. In a construction company setting, this role ensures accurate processing of accounts payable transactions, compliance with company policies, and timely communication with vendors and project managers.
Key Responsibilities
- Receive, review, and process vendor invoices related to construction projects.
- Match invoices with purchase orders, contracts, and delivery receipts.
- Verify accuracy of charges, quantities, and approvals before payment.
- Prepare and process check runs, ACH transfers, and wire payments.
- Ensure payments are made on time to maintain good vendor relationships.
- Record and reconcile payments in the accounting system.
- Communicate with vendors regarding billing discrepancies, missing documentation, or payment status.
- Maintain updated vendor files, including W‑9 forms and insurance certificates.
- Assist in coding expenses to the correct project, cost center, or account.
- Support monthly closing by preparing AP reports and reconciliations.
- Provide documentation for audits and compliance reviews.
- Maintain organized digital and physical records of invoices and payments.
- Assist the Accounts Payable Accountant and Finance Manager with ad hoc tasks.
- Support the implementation of accounting software or process improvements.
Qualifications
- Associate’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (Bachelor’s preferred).
- 1–2 years of experience in accounts payable or general accounting.
- Knowledge of construction industry practices and project accounting is a plus.
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks).
- Excellent communication skills for working with vendors and project teams.
Pay: $17.00 - $20.00 per hour
